Millworks and Woodworkers Shop

Beautiful Installation

We went to Millworks based on their reputation in the community. The experience in the store was very customer friendly. The sales associate was helpful and willingly answered all our questions. The employee that came out to measure was very professional and quick. The wait for the wood to arrive and the installation was very timely. The day of the installation we were told that the contract did not include the underlinement that would be needed. However, we were able to work that out without any problem. We were fine with paying for the goods that are needed and they did not charge extra labor. This situation was handled by the installer not the store. So it went quickly. The install was professional and well done. We had a beautiful floor when they left. The following day wood at the baseboards had not be secured so there were gaps developing. They fixed them quickly. The other interesting aspect that we noticed on day two was some splintering on the ends of some wood planks. The installer came out and told us not a problem and that he would fix it by replacing them. It happens I guess when the planks are installed. Sounded good to us.\r\n\r\nHowever, as we waited for them to fix the wood, we noticed more and more planks splintering on the ends. The owner came out and told us he saw nothing. The supplier and the store owner along with a total of four employees came out to tell us it was beautiful. \r\n\r\nTwo certified inspectors later both saying the wood is damaged and needs to be replaced, we have nothing from Millworks except nastiness. The second inspector paid by Millworks, said the wood is bad. The ends are not properly cut. This actually makes sense. However, we are not the experts. They replaced part of the wood before the second inspection but the wood has the wrong finish. While they were replacing the installers kept finding more and more planks that were bad. They told us that they must stop because this is a problem that will need more then just some planks replaced. \r\n\r\nSo, one year later we have a letter from a lawyer telling us we can have credit towards our final payment. Yet we do not have the wood we paid for and it will cost us to replace or refinish it. \r\n\r\nIn order to be completely honest and upfront (which millworks is not good at).....\r\n\r\nThey did offer a pesudo refinish, it is different then a complete refinish. This process that they were offering lasts less then 10 years. It will null and void our warranty. He generously offered to also put us up at Great Bear Lodge for a night. :) I assume it is cheaper to throw that in then do the right thing.....\r\n\r\nThis company does a beautiful job installing wood flooring. The staff that installs the wood is trustworthy and professional. However, if you are unluckly enough to have "bad" wood installed, you will wish you went else where. The manner in which the owner and the store manger deal with you is anything but pleasant or professional.
