"Yes, there are still some charities that will pick up large items, but generally they must be in good shape. If you can't find a local charity willing to accept these items, you might want to consider using www.freecycle.org -- an organization (free to join) that helps people to keep usable items out of landfills. You can list items that you wish to obtain and items that you wish to give away on the site. We have found it to be a great answer when charities won't take our larger items."
