This man is a maniac! High all the time on drugs and beat my new guitar to a pulp! I would not reccommend anyone to hire this guy! Has no license, no vehicle and beats new guitars up for no reason! I think he needs to be behind bars for a while !!!!!1 I worked hard for my guitar and he had the nerve after me helping him to his pharmacy and to his job and to see his wonderful Father, etc. - to smash my guitar! Go Figure! He has no right and he lives in Hillsborough - such a quaint town! I notified Mr Fox of the Sherrif's department, but I wanted to warn folks not to ever hire him!!!1 ...read more

They came at 7 in the morning to remove my neighbours tree. At some point, they ripped down part of my face and workers went through the torn fence into my backyard. They threw large chunks of the tree into my garden area and then put a front-end loader over my new fence, crushing and bending the top. Then they left with the fence broken. AT NO POINT did they ask if they could be in my yard. When I phoned the owner to complain he said no one was home. That was news to me because I'd been home all day and my car was in the drive way. I even went into my backyard to watch, hoping to prevent further destruction of my property. The owner asked me if I'd told the men to get out -- Yes, I'm going to ask a group of strange men to get out of my yard. BY LAW, Hill's Tree Service, you have to ASK property owners to enter their yard. And you don't need to be jerks to a woman who phones to complain about it. \t\n\t\nThey are supposedly going to fix the fence. We shall see. ...read more

I do not recommend this guy. He'll first tell you he wants to do the estimate when you're not at home - as if that's practical or wise. Then when you take off work early to meet him, he doesn't show, call, or return your calls. A total waste of time, and a real nuisance. You've been warned. ...read more

When the city called me to tell me I had a tree on my property that wasn’t to code, I had to get it removed. I called Premiere Tree Services and they were able to come out the same day and take down the tree. Not to mention it was at my own expense, so the affordable price that Premiere Tree Services charged was an extra appeal. They’ve got some of the best in Durham! It was a big stress relief to get the problem solved so quickly. ...read more

Be on the Lookout for Eastern Tent Caterpillars

During early and late spring, there are certain insect, and butterflies that come out which feed on the leaves of trees and other vegetation. This is the time when they become most active and they gobble a lot of leaves so that they can metamorphose into the next cycle of their lives. However, there are some of them that become pests and instead of tolerating their existence, they can post a threat to some trees that we already have. The eastern tent caterpillar thrives on wild cherry, apple and crabapple. You may even find them in hawthorn, maple, cherry, peach, pear and plum trees as well. You may even find them crossing your driveway when your orchard is infested with them. Their population becomes numerous at times and there are instances when outbreaks happen. They make silken nests that are not nice to look at on trees. This little pest can actually defoliate a tree when their population on it is uncontrolled. Their nests aren’t pleasant to look at as well. You may see their nests on excess defoliation. The nests which are in silk form are attached to the tree’s crotches of limbs and they grow. The eastern tent caterpillar’s larvae are a problem when they get the chance to cross over protected areas where they further pupate. They walk and cross from one plant to the other and you may even have times when you see them crossing on your driveway. As a result, you squash them up and they create a terrible mess. Those that survive the season turn into moths and the cycle begins again. They mate; lay new eggs and the eggs hibernate in winter. There is only one generation a year from this insect. There are pesticides that can be used to control their population. To spot a potential nest, it would be best to contact a tree specialist who can easily help you get rid of them before they cause any problems. ...read more

Preventing the Spread of Tree Diseases

There are many diseases that can kill your tree trees including Elm Yellows, Dutch elm disease and Oak Wilt. Fortunately there are ways to prevent the spread of these diseases and keep trees alive. The most important thing that a homeowner can do is to regularly inspect trees for these diseases. Learn the symptoms of the diseases that afflict trees in your area and watch for them. To keep the trees alive you will have to inspect them closely. Once the leaves or needles turn brown it is probably too late to save a tree. Therefore it's always a good idea to take a good look at your foliage.  The best course of action when you think a tree is infected is to call in a professional arborist as soon as possible. The arborist might be able to save the tree and if removal is necessary can do it in a safe manner that won't spread the disease. Other steps that can be taken to prevent the spread of such diseases include: •    The quick removal of dead or severely infected trees to prevent the spread of disease. •    Digging trenches two to three feet in depth around infected trees. This cuts the roots through which most fungal infections that kill trees spread. •    Pruning and trimming trees only in cool or cold weather. Pruning trees in warm weather can actually spread some tree diseases. •    Quickly disposing of wood from dead or infected trees because keeping it around can cause tree diseases to spread. •    Monitoring the trees on neighboring properties to make sure they are not infected. •    Having a professional arborist look at your trees on a regular basis to make they are healthy. •    Planting species of trees that are known to be disease resistant. •    Regular spraying of fungicides and other chemicals that can prevent the spread of tree diseases.  ...read more

Controlling Tree Diseases

If you are a property owner in the Eastern US you've probably heard about all the diseases that can kill trees. These include: Oak Wilt, Dutch elm disease, Elm Yellows and Beech Bark Disease just to name a few.   Fortunately there are a few precautions that a homeowner can take to control the spread of these blights. Taking just a few of these steps can control tree diseases. Steps for Controlling Tree Diseases The first and most important step for controlling tree diseases is to remove any tree that is dead or visibly decayed.  By the time you notice that a tree is sick it is probably dying. Removingsuch a tree and hauling away the stump will stop the spread of the disease.Spray the trees in your yard with a fungicide to prevent the spread of funguses.  This can stop the spread of Oak Wilt and Dutch elm disease.Tree spraying done by professionals will kill insects that aid in the spread of the disease.  Incesticides are an effective way of saving certain trees from complete demise.Dig a trench around the base of the infected trees to cut off the root system.  Many times disease is spread through the weaving of a root system. Plant disease resistant trees and maintain the health and vitality of the remaning trees to avoid further infection.  Replacing trees that were lost with new trees of a different species may improve the support system on your property and eradicate the disease. ...read more
