Tutwiler is a town in northwestern Mississippi, part of the Mississippi Delta region that is known for being the birthplace of the blues. The town was named after its founder, a railroad engineer named Tom Tutwiler. As of the 2000 US census, its population was 1,364. Like several other locations in the region, Tutwiler claims to be the place where the blues were discovered, by famous local blues musician W.C. Handy. There is a Mississippi Blues Trail marker in the spot where Handy claims to have made the discovery. Students in Tutweiler are served by the West Tallahatchie School District; the biggest school here is West Tallahatchie High School. Local businesses include Urban Waterwerks and Pizza Inn. She has no explanation for why the appeal was denied.
