I was looking for a studio/efficiency anywhere in the city of Saint Louis that was less than $700/mo. I toured a number of places, and the Gallery Apartments was 1) infinitely cleaner and more well-equipped than the competition and 2) the second-cheapest rent I found.Coming from my previous city, this part of Saint Louis first struck me as seedy. But The Gallery is filled with young professionals, graduate students, and some older adults. The street is a mix of town houses and suburb-style houses. The neighbors are extremely friendly. A few streets north gets a little rough, but a few blocks west are some of the nicest places in town. My room is huge and well equipped. You'll need a car to get around, though. No walking really. Staff has always been attentive to my needs. Would recommend. ...read more

I had nothing but a wonderful experience at the gallery. The unit was small, but my $495 was well spent on granite countertops, new appliances, hardwood floors and a washer and dryer. Yes, you probably shouldn't walk alone at night, but you're in the middle of STL...what do you expect? I, a female, lived alone for several months, coming home late from work, and I never felt unsafe. I also never saw roaches or any other pests. Keep your unit clean, and free of standing water and cardboard boxes and you're set.I had a nightmare of a subleaser situation and Jennie and the owners were nothing but understanding and wonderful. Before you make any judgements on the place, stop by and ask a few tenants walking around of their opinion. I can almost guarantee that you'll hear good things. ...read more

Please read my full review at http://www.yelp.com/biz/apartments-for-you-saint-louis?fsid=y5QqzvT_3XsX58HhpJeIfQ I suspect this site does not have a long enough character limit for my review. The beginning is as follows: This place used to be a great place to live. However, like some other tenants on some other review sites, I experienced 2-faced people with management. I caught them in several lies (they'd tell me one story, and later tell me the exact opposite). Example: they initially told me that a neighbor admitted to damaging my property, but later said he denied it. Why the sudden flip? This lying by management was actually a pattern I began to notice during my 2 years of living there. The Whittier units are next to a house with a dog that barks CONTINUALLY, making it so I can't sleep in my own apartment. I work at night and don't enjoy being awoken at 6 AM. I also suspect management framed me for one or more of the reasons they asked to not renew my lease. ...read more

Hampton Gardens

1.0

By ADub10 at Citysearch

When I first moved here I had maintenance issues during the first months because things were obviously not fixed before my move in. Hampton gardens were very prompt at fixing problems at the beginning of my stay but eventually put my request on the back burner and would take all day to get around to my maintenance requests. As of now I currently have three nice size water spots on my ceiling that they were suppose to come and fix when I first renewed my lease and also paint them because it looks so ugly, and have they done so?No. The bedroom and hallway closets have outdated closets and the white paint chips everywhere, every time you open and close the door.I'm steady vacuuming every week. The people at the leasing office are also very rude and unprofessional. Hampton gardens will try to find anyway to get money out of their residents, they charged me $50 dollars because I locked myself out of my home outside of office hours. They told me the amount had to be paid in full the next day and if I did not pay right away they would charge me $10 everyday and so on. I know people who stay in other apartments who do not have to pay a ridiculous fee like the one that they have here. The carpet in the apartment is so nice when you move in, but it is that cheap carpet that looks so horrible after a couple of months without constantly getting it cleaned and fluffed back up. The noise is also horrible, you can hear everyones conversation throughout the building if people are talking really loud. I can not wait to move out of these apartments in two months, I would never want to stay here again. I would rather live in a BOX. Also they change the rent every year, when I first moved here the rent was $520, now the rent is $535 and they are supposedly going up to $545, you would think that they are drawing numbers out of a box, literally. This place isn't even worth $500. Last but not least the maintence men just hangs out all day in the driveways in the back port not doing anything but listening to music and laughing but for some reason I can never get a maintence man over right away to fix a repair!! ...read more

Phase II complete!

It has been a little over a year since The Gallery on Washington property was purchased. Consisting of 2 buildings. The first originally built in 1929 was used then as a hotel. We completed construction /rehab and officially opened its doors in January of 2009. The second building, also built in 1929 was originally a monestary. How the two fit together at the time was beyond me!     The Gallery is now a whole! We opened the second building in July 2009. We already have more than half occupied by residents. The two buildings are connected by a European style courtyard. By European , I mean that there are about 30 balconies that face the courtyard which has a few seating areas and a 15 foot fountain. The buildings are completely gated in by decorative iron gates and fencing with key coded entrances.     Building 2 consists of six large studio and forty eight efficiency floor plans. This makes for a quiet atmosphere and is more affordable. Although your unit may be on the smaller side in an efficiency - we have truly optimized space by providing a loft style bed. The loft style bed option is Free and was completely custom built by carpenters, it suspends from the ceiling creating more floor space for a love seat or television to fit underneath. There is also a Free granite desk option, installed on the wall of your choice. The hallways are granite with lighting that highlights hand painted artwork and mounted musical instruments placed throughout the common ways. All the unit numbers are also hand painted on. Keeping in the theme of "The Gallery" and flowing perfectly with building 1.     The Gallery is truly a unique and beautiful place to live. Please stop by a visit anytime! Our introductory pricing is till going on, but not for very long! Our efficiencies are only $495 per month- First month half off and only a $300 deposit! Our studios are only $600 per month with No Deposit! All you pay for is Electric maxing out at and average of $30 to $50 per month!!!! Affordable Living in a Caring Community

One of the best kept secrets in University City, MO is The Gladys & Henry Crown Center for Senior Living, www.crowncenterstl.org.  This remarkable retirement community provides high quality housing for older adults with limited resources.  The residents and staff share a commitment to independent living and an active lifestyle. Crown seniors bring a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.  Services and amenities range from a van for transportation, a social nutrition meal program, an on-site beauty salon and branch bank, to visits from health professionals, assistance from staff social workers, and a wide variety of cultural and communal activities. A new resident describes life at Crown Center in this way: "When I couldn't afford to keep my house and needed to move, I drove past Crown Center and saw how convenient the location was and how nice the neighborhood looked, and I stopped in for a tour. The friendliness of the staff and people living there was a real draw for me, and I really liked the diversity of the community. Though I had to wait a couple of months to get the apartment I wanted, I knew no other place would do. And I was right--this place is not just a comfortable and safe apartment building, it's truly home!" ...read more

A one of a kind apartment building turned into a work of art!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for visiting us and wanting more information. I am the apartment manager of this beautiful new building which just opened its doors. There are 2 buildings. The first one (4140) completed the consrtuction stage and is open for new tenants. The second(4132) is undergoing construction now and will be open in the spring of 2009. Both buildings were built in 1929 and were originally a hotel and a convent. They were turned into apartment homes many years later. The previous owners never brought the buildings up to the standard they should be at for the "trendy" and "upscale" Central West End area. The owners now, saw the potential and did just that. Upon entering the buildings for the first time (pre-construction of course), I felt as if I was on the set of a Saw movie. The buildings were in dire need of repair. Everything has and had to be gutted. Meaning the plumbing, electric, insulation, heating/cooling systems, common areas, doors, fixtures and all the cosmetics had be be torn out and put back together with updated material. These owners did not just use the standard material. They went above and beyond with top of the line materials. For example: the bathrooms are all marble from the sink tops to the floors and walls. The kitchens have granite countertops on solid wood cherry wood cabinetry with ceramic tile floors and new appliances. Every unit includes a stackable washer/dryer as well. The hallways resemble an art gallery with marble floors throughout the building and halfway up each and every wall. At eye level you can view over 300 peices of handpainted/drawn art showcased throught all the common areas. Upon entering the building(post constuction) you are greated with a marble lobby with granite fountain, lounge area, leasing center, flat screen tv, and Free Wi-Fi. The Building ammenties go on with gated parking, balconies, keyless entry doors, 24 hour on site maintenance, camera surveillance, and more! If you are looking for something affordable and luxurious- you are probably having a hard time finding it in the Central West End. Know that a visit to our building will not waste your time. Our pricing is 25% lower than every other building in this area and our units are nicer. Please see our website atwww.stlouisapartmentsforyou.comor call us at 314-534-1323. On top of our low pricing- ask about our move-in special! $200 off your first month's rent!!  We are open daily with a display and can take appointments after hours and on weekends. Thank you and I hope to see you visiting soon! Jennie Weathers (Proud) Apartment Manager ...read more
