Springtime

I can't believe spring is pretty much here. As usual, the winter flew right by and the show season was very busy with one more show to go. It seems like the first show of the season was yesterday! For the Minnesota log homes scene things are really busy and plans are in full swing for several spring and early starts. As a dealer for Stevens Point Log Homes it has been great to have the wider range of products to offer to log and rustic home enthusiasts. Stevens Point Log Homes truly has the most rustic half log siding to be had. Our logs are not ran through a machine to be peeled like so many of the other log home companies will do. With no machine peeling you don't get the repetitive machine peeled pattern. As we all know, natural logs aren't machined! Feel free to visit our website and call or email with any questions.  ...read more

Labor Day Weekend

Somehow the summer of '11 rolled by again and another Labor Day weekend is upon us. We have been busy with wrapping up plans for our fall log home starts. Others that aren't building until next spring are busy entering the planning stages to get their log home plans to paper so all the details can be worked out over the winter for a spring start. We also offer log home repair, restoration and refinishing services for log homes throughout Minnesota. Until the upcoming cold weather later this fall makes it too cold for us to stain we will be available to help you on your project.  Hybrid homes are still popular. People that don't want a lot of log but yet want to maintain the rustic appearance are going that route. A mix of log, stone and other exterior materials such as cement board make for a great look. Add in some interior log, knotty pine T&G; and some rustic cabinets and the rustic theme is complete.  Head on over to the Wild River Log Homes website for more information on Minnesota log homes.  ...read more

June 3rd - Local Event For Breast Cancer

We here at Wild River Log Homes are excited to be part of the three band event at Wild River Bar and Grill in Almelund on Friday, June 3rd that is a fundraiser for the Hope Chest for breast cancer. The event with this caliber of bands will bring people to our community that wouldn't be coming here if this concert wasn't taking place here. The headliners are one of the biggest bands in the Texas/Red Dirt scene called Jason Boland and the Stragglers. Texas/Red Dirt music is overlooked by mainstream radio but they get alot of play on satellite and internet radio stations. These bands tour the country bringing their live shows to their fans. The Texas music fan is willing to drive several hours to catch a show when these bands make a midwest run. People will be here from the Dakotas, Wisconsin, Iowa and all over Minnesota.  On June 4th there is a 100 mile motorcycle run that will be starting and ending at Wild River Bar. The run is also a benefit for Hope Chest for breast cancer.  It'd be great to see some local music fans and businesses come out for the show and see some of the best kept secrets in country music. The website for the event is www.stcroixjam.com and there is links to the bands and more event info there. If you are a local business and would like to be involved like we are just let them know. I've seen these bands before and can say they are top notch and that everyone attending will have a great time. Like I already said, it is great to see an event like this in our area and hopefully it can grow each year.  ...read more

Once things start falling into place the next step in the process is getting preliminary plans drawn up. These will be used for getting costs gathered on both the materials and constructions aspects of the project. Six months can go by in a hurry! For more information on building a log home here in Minnesota or Wisconsin just head on over to Wild River Log Homes.  Also, as winter throwing everything at us many people are experiencing ice dams on their homes. The conditions this year have caused ice dams even on homes that haven't had them before. It is best to get ice dams removed before they start forcing water into the interior of your house as the water runs down from the higher areas of your roof. Professional steam removing is the safest option for ice dam removal for your roof and yourself. If you need help removing ice dams I suggest going to this website. Happy New Year! ...read more

Rustic Homes

Log homes are unique, fun to live in, very energy efficient and look great. But, log homes may not blend with some residential areas and some people are afraid of "too much log" but still want the rustic look both outside and inside. That rustic look can be achieved with blending building materials such as cedar siding, stone and log accents around windows and for porch posts. Cement board is another option as well. A hybrid home like this will fit into neighborhoods a bit better and also work just fine in wooded, rural or lake side settings as well. Some will opt for some interior log as well while mixing in tongue and groove knotty pine, drywall for added color and interior stone. A timber frame appearance is very easy to achieve with this hybrid building style. To learn more about these types of homes and to view photos head on over to Wild River Log Homes.  ...read more

Time To Plan

It is hard to believe that 2010 is soon to wrap up. Where did the year go? This is the time of year to start planning if you want to start construction of your log home this coming spring or early summer. Six months can fly by during the planning process. Plans need to be drawn, bids need to be gathered and permits need to be issued along with many other phases of the planning process. We are here to help with all of that and can build throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Researching log homes can be confusing being no two companies offer the same log home company. Along with varying package inclusions there are also many different log styles, sizes and wood species to choose from. All of these items can have an impact on the costs. Feel free to call or go to Wild River Log Homes for more information. ...read more
