About Mound, MN
Mound is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The population was 9,435 at the 2000 census. Mound is the home of the Tonka truck, named after "Lake Minnetonka". Mound is also the birthplace of Kevin Sorbo, the actor who played Hercules. The "Tonka Toys" headquarters was originally located in Mound, but relocated due to a need for expansion. Like many cities and towns in Minnesota, Mound lies near numerous bodies of water, making it a great location for lake homes camping, canoeing, and fishing. The Mound downtown area is a typical small town setting, with a pet store, a burger joint, Subway Restaurant, True Value Hardware, and a Barber Shop. The Mound city council has been working on a project called "Mound Vision", an effort to improve business in the downtown area. The biggest schools here are Grand View Middle School, and Shirley Hills Primary School.
