Minnesota Martial Arts Academy

I've been trying to lose stubborn weight for years, and I just couldn't do it on my own. I kept promising myself I would start working out but I kept procrastinating...and finally a friend told me about the Academy. I was totally intimidated at first, but I went in and met with Coach Andy. He is such great instructor and really good at transmitting knowledge and martial arts principles to beginners. It didn't matter that I was a little overweight and out of shape. \t\n\t\nThe Academy is place where people connect and strive towards common goals. I'm a college professor so I know good instruction when I see it. I first started in the Kickboxing class, and then I upgraded my membership to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also I currently train 4 times a week, and I'm down 20 lbs I feel great. \t\n\t\nI recommend the academy to anyone who wants to change their life & join a serious group of people dedicated to the way of martial discipline. ...read more

I spent about 20 years sitting around getting out of shape. My health started to decline so I decided to look into some different gyms. I tried 24 hour gyms where I could run on a tread mill and lift weights. I tried the local community center where I could swim. They all seemed sterile and I couldn't stay motivated. \t\n\t\nMy 17 year old son was invited to "check out" the Academy. I went along to watch and after about a week I decided to, "give it a try." 2 years later, I'm still energized to go to class, see my friends who are training, and learn all at the same time. It's motivated me past what I do in class. I've changed my diet and don't feel like I'm just waiting around for the heart attack to come.\t\n\t\nIf you are even thinking you might want to check out Martial Arts training, whether it be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Thai Boxing, or Combat Submission Wrestling. Do you self a favor and do the FREE 30 day trial! It may just change your life like it has for me!! ...read more

Minnesota Martial Arts Academy

My 11 year old son and me have trained at Minnesota Martial Arts Academy for just over a year now and this academy is the real deal. \t\n\t\nUnlike past TaeKwonDo/Hapkido schools I've trained at over the past 5 years where you basically buy yourself a Blackbelt, at MMAA you earn your way. But you don't do it alone. MMAA has awesome highly skilled instructors at every level for their BJJ/MuayThai/Selfdefense/MMA courses. And the bonus is the owner and UFC trainer Greg Nelson doesn't only train his MMA fighters he instructs at all levels of all the courses. \t\n\t\nAs for the another review here stating they only care about your money. That comment is BS. I started out as a 40 something out of shape with arthritis in my hip so I'm no where near an ideal UFC prospect *LOL* and I've never once felt out of place or denied assistance or instruction. In fact times where my hip has caused problems with any given technique the instructors have always been excellent in offering me similar alternative techniques. \t\n\t\nMinnesota Martial Arts Academy is serioiusly the best place to train modern martial arts in the Twin Cities hands down... ...read more

This program is wonderful. All of the teachers are great, especially the director (Mr. Sidner) and his second-in-command, Mr. Tobin. Together they have created an atmosphere of support, encouragement, and learning. My rather shy son, age 6,... ...read more

Tilopa Tai Chi Qigong Center

5.0

By Karen C.

“I found that Marilyn Allysum was a great instructor and I really enjoyed the sessions. The class atmosphere was very friendly, relaxed, and welcoming. Students are encouraged to play Tai Chi to the best of their ability, regardless of one's personal situation or physical limitations. There is no competition and people are not there just to be seen or to show off. Tai Chi and Qigong is not really an exercise class, but is a gentle martial art based on Taoist principles that teaches students how to harmonize the mind and body through movement and mental focus. Playing Tai Chi has an energizing yet calming effect on the mind and body. Principles I learned in the class have helped me to better manage my emotional response to stressful situations in my life, and how to undo the acute physical toll stress takes on the body. ...read more

Academy of Hwa Rang DO

5.0

By Mangan Pulford

If you are looking for an intense and comprehensive workout, I highly recommend the Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy. Hwa Rang Do is a Korean martial art and training covers everything from kick-punch fighting to submission grappling. Since I began to train at the school I have noticed drastic changes in my physical and mental abilities. Physically, my flexibility has gone through the roof and I now have more upper body strength than I have ever had. Mentally, I am more focused at work and my stress levels have dropped significantly. I immediately feel the impact when I am unable to attend a class, I have less energy and focus and my body begins to tighten. Hwa Rang Do has become the balance in my life. ...read more

Hwa Rang DO Minneapolis Academy

I have been attending the MPLS Hwa Rang Do Academy for almost a year. When I moved to Minneapolis I was looking for a dojang that incorperated all the aspects of martial arts; sparring(kick-punch fighting), grappling(ground fighting), weapons, and forms. I found this in Hwa Rang Do, but I also found something else. I found a sense of self-confidence I never had. Not only is it a martial art form, but it is also a family, a community. Everyone from the instructors to your fellow classmates provide support and you find yourself making lifetime friends. I have been pushed physically and mentally, and come out a better person because of it. There are always new challenges and things to learn, and I find Hwa Rang Do pushing me every step of the way. ...read more

Hwa Rang DO Minneapolis Academy

5.0

By Mangan Pulford

I have been training at the Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy for the past year and a half, and have found it to be the most comprehensive martial art training in the Twin Cities area. Hwa Rang Do, as a martial art, encompasses all aspects of training: kick-punch fighting, self defense, grappling, and weapons. It is also holistic in its approach at improving the individual as a whole and have a good sense of balance. The classes emphasize both physical and mental enhancement with killer workouts along with sides of meditaion sessions. As a woman, I love training at the school. Most importantly, for me, is that the atmosphere is not intimidating, but rather receptive and encouraging. The instructors know me and how I learn, and therefore, I receive more detailed and personal training. Because of their passion for teaching, I have surpassed every goal I have set for myself. ...read more

Hwa Rang DO Minneapolis Academy

I have been training at the Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy for the past year and a half. For years I had been struggling to find a form of exercise that I could stick with, and of course, something that was fun. \nI did not have previous martial art experience, but I continuously encountered the school and decided to give it a try. New experiences are always a little unnerving, but being one of a few females in a predominantly male sport is flat out frighting. As a woman, I learn and approach problems differently then the men in my classes. Fortuantely, here at the school, we have a large number of women training and the level solidarity and support among the Hwa Rang Do/Tae Soo Do women is unmatched. Encouragement does not end with the women, there is a true sense of family from the entire dojang. \t\nYou cannot fail, they will not let you. Over the last year, I have been challenged both mentally and physically and have \t\nexceeded my own expectations. Training has changed my world view and approach to life. \t\n\t\n ...read more

The instructor is very experienced and is an exceptionally good teacher. He pushes you to excel. This school is not for those that take martial arts training lightly. I leave every class soaked in sweat. This is by far my favorite school It is one of only two schools in the country that teaches both northern praying mantis and northern shaolin. The only other school is in california. Believe me, attend one class, and you'll be sore the next day. TRY IT OUT! ...read more
