Called him for a big tree that fell in my yard due to the big storm. Said he would come after 5 pm. We rushed home from metro Detroit only to get a call from him at 4:10 trying to find my house. I gave him directions and said I would be there in a few minutEd since he was early and that we needed 4 more trees down and I wanted to access the Pines that the first tree fell on. We get to the house at 4:15 and he is gone. Calls up not sure which ones I wanted down. Gave me a huge quote then hung up on me. Wasted my Sunday with family in detroit rushing back to meet him. Needless to say don't use him. ...read more

RUN FAST AND RUN HARD!! This shady business took my credit card information over the phone and then said "they will pass" on my business! I spent time researching and talking with Jason on the phone and determined which program I would like. I gave him my credit card information and he proceeded to run it through their system. I called back within 5 minutes to say that we would like to cancel and then switch to a different program (still excited for their services). Jason said "not a problem - just let me know what you decide". I email him another 5 minutes later our decision and he says "we will have to pass - thanks anyways" - after taking my credit card information. That seems very shady and unprofessional! What ever happened to the customer comes first? Why is it that because I change my mind I am refused services? I'd say it is my prerogative as a woman to change my mind when making decisions. :) Humor aside, this is not the kind of company to move forward with and trust your information with if they are flighty. The interesting part is that I even told Jason that I was a new homeowner, not sure how/what everythings is and I asked him if I could trust him. I always ask this question - just to see how people respond. He says 'we've been around for many years and we are family owned - we must be doing something right!'. WRONG Jason. Very wrong. I am sure there are wonderful family owned businesses out there that are much more friendly and accomodating. Please give them your business because you might not be 'good enough' or decisive enough for these fickle folks. ...read more

Slip and Fall Lawsuits: Can a Michigan Business Be Sued?

Michigan’s snowy winters, especially in areas such as Grand Rapids and the state capital, Lansing, are often impressive. When snow falls, businesses have risk management concerns of slip and fall accidents on their property. Can a Michigan business be sued for slip and fall accidents on ice? The answer’s a bit complicated but in the end, relatively clear. While we’re not lawyers, here’s what we dug up to help you: Liability Increases During the Winter A business that knowingly and negligently disregards its duty to keep its walkways, parking lots and entrances free of snow and ice increases its liability risks. An army of personal injury attorneys in Michigan eagerly await the start of winter, and they can’t wait to file lawsuits, no matter how frivolous they might seem. Fortunately for the average Michigan business when it comes to slip and fall injuries: Over the last several years, it’s become increasingly difficult to press slip and fall injury claims against Michigan businesses because of snow and ice on their premises. A January 2013 article posted on the Insurance Journal website reports that Michigan courts are using a tough recent standard, set by the state Supreme Court, to rule against numerous slip and fall injury claimants. Detroit’s local CBS affiliate, in a December 2012 online piece, also notes that slip and fall injury claimants must prove they had absolutely no other way to avoid the hazard to press their lawsuits. As a consequence, CBS reported wintertime slip-and-fall injury lawsuits have declined from 20 percent of business to 2 percent for some Michigan personal injury attorneys. Should a Business Risk a Slip and Fall Lawsuit, Though? While Michigan businesses can often beat wintertime slip and fall lawsuits, the bigger question is if the business should take such a risk at all. Consider: Slips and falls due to wintry conditions can quickly spread negative feelings about your business, both by word-of-mouth and over the internet. It costs your business goodwill, and that hurts. A business is also being ethical and smart to keep its premises free of snow and ice. Doing so helps increase customer safety. “The NSC says that approximately 25,000 people are victims of slip and fall accidents every day, costing businesses $3.5 million dollars every hour, 365 days a year. With the average cost to defend slip-and-fall lawsuits running $50,000 (as reported by the National Floor Safety Institute), developing and implementing a plan to reduce slip and fall claims against your business can dramatically improve your bottom line. The first step is to realize that you can’t protect yourself from false slip and fall claims without proof of due diligence.” So who can help you in proof of due diligence and risk management in Michigan? Sneller Snow Systems can. As Michigan’s only ISO 9001/SN 9001 certified snow and ice management company, we have endured and passed a rigorous audit process, which ensures that we adhere to the ANSI accepted snow industry standards, and maintain the appropriate records surrounding each snow event. This helps you to build a solid defense against a potential slip and fall claim. For the best high-quality commercial snow removal in Grand Rapids MI and Lansing, contact us at Sneller Snow Systems today. We have ISO 9001 certified snow removal systems in place to keep your business open and visitors safe. ...read more

3 Safety Tips To Be Prepared for Grand Rapids Snow

Last weekend we received ourfirst real snowfall in 2015in the Grand Rapids and Lansing MI areas. It’s not clear if the snow will stick around this week, but either way – before long, Lansing and Grand Rapids snow will hold us in a cold embrace; and the sooner we prepare ourselves, the better off we’ll be. Forewarned is forearmed. So here are three important winter safety tips to help you prepare for Michigan snow in 2015-2016: Winter Safety Tip 1: Don’t strain yourself. We’re all aware that we need to walk carefully on icy sidewalks, because every year people injure themselves when they slip and fall; however, there’s a greater risk that you will die while shoveling snow than by slipping on ice! According to theNational Safety Council, shoveling hundreds of pounds of snow can be quite a strain on the heart–especially for older people and sedentary individuals. Just as you would for any workout, prepare yourself for shoveling by being well-rested and well-hydrated. Start by stretching, and then warm up slowly as you work. If you feel tired or strained, take a break. Last, always remember to lift with your legs instead of your back. Winter Safety Tip 2: Don’t minimize the small storms. We’re all on guard for the big ones, but smaller storms can cause quite a bit of damage as well. As theexperts at NOAAremind us, a few inches of snow or ice is all it takes sometimes to shut a city down and create hazardous conditions on the roads. Exercise just as much caution during small storms as you would during the large ones. The life you save may be your own. Winter Safety Tip 3: Don’t overlook your disaster communications plan. Although many of us prepare our houses, cars, and businesses for winter storms, we overlook preparing our families and employees for how we will contact one another if communication systems fail. For more information on family communication plans (which can easily be adapted for commercial use), check out resources throughFEMA. It’s our hope that you take these winter safety tips seriously. Given that during the winter of 2014, a single storm was responsible for thedeath of six Michigan residents, we know that there’s some room to grow in the area of education and preparedness. Here atSneller Snow Systems, we’re interested in much more than just snow removal and ice management. We’re here to help educate and prepare our customers for whatever the coming months may bring to the Grand Rapids and Lansing MI areas. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free tocontact usor comment below. ...read more

Safety Tips & Snow Plow Video Clips

December. It’s here and time for us to get serious about Lansing and Grand Rapids snow removal services. We’ve already had our first snow event that sparked the idea of a few newwinter safety tips. When sharing the roadways and parking lots with heavy equipment this winter season, there are a few things you should know to help keep you safe in Michigan or wherever you drive. Here are a few snow plow safety tips and scary video clips that might help: The Bigger They Are, the Harder They Fall Although snow plows and snow removal equipment are effective at spreading salt, deicer, or other ice melt chemicals on slick surfaces, those surfacesaren’t always equipped to bear the weight (This is NOT our equipment, and hiring a professional like Sneller Snow Systems will ensure that this does not happen to you!). Be cautious when driving or parking near these machines. The Bigger They Are, the Slower They Stop Remember that it takes great skill and precision to handle large machinery. Often operators are required to obtain extra licenses and specialized training before handling them. We believe the best snow removal services include certified operators andISO certified snow removal systems. But even all of these precautions are no match for the unexpected. Other motorists, unaware of how long it can take large vehicles to come to a stop, could pull out at the wrong time and cause a problem. If you’re going to share the roads with large snow removal equipment, take sensible precautions. First, allow big rigs more time for slowing and stopping. Second, leave plenty of room. Most statesrequireyou to stay back from snow plows at least 200 feet by law. The Bigger They Are, The Further Away You Should Be Take a lesson fromone reporter from Traverse City, Michigan, who discovered what happens if you stand too close to the edge of the road when a snow plow goes by. If you’re going to walk or stand alongside the road for any reason, pay attention to your surroundings. Keep your head up and keep well back in the event of snow plows. The good news is that all of our operators at Sneller Snow Systems are well-trained, well-qualified, and fully experienced in winter safety. We take great care to follow guidelines and keep our eyes out for other drivers and pedestrians. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for every truck, plow, or big rig on the roads this winter. It’s our hope that this post will remind you to exercise caution. If you have questions or comments about our Lansing or Grand Rapids snow removal services, snow plowing, or ice management services, please feel free tocontact us. ...read more
