If you plan to visit or relocate to Newport, KY make a note of avoiding the city parking lots. To locals that know better and to the city government who laugh all the way to the bank when someone gets caught up their little scam it must make them lol.\t\n\t\n Here's how it works. City parking lots like the one at the Freedom Bell are "honor" lots. You stuff a dollar into a ramshackle panel sign to avoid getting a ticket. The thing is - and here's the catch - they don't tell you that you have to pay when you first get there on any of the entrance signs except the main entrance. I pulled in off a side street and parked there fully intending to pay on the way out (like every other parking system in the world) and found a rain-soaked ticket on my window when I got back from the aquarium. *GOTCHA*\t\n\t\n If you want to avoid that scheme stay away from the city sponsored services.
