Two cities divided by the Wabash River make up the Lafayette, Indiana metro area, home of Purdue University. The university, actually located across the river in West Lafayette, is the community's top employer, though manufacturing concerns such as Caterpillar, Alcoa, Subaru of Indiana and Fairfield Manufacturing also play a big role. Lafayette is about 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
