About Cannelton, IN
The city of Cannelton, named for the cannel coal mined in the region, is located on the Ohio River in Perry County, Indiana. It was once an important river port and during the Civil War, a local cotton mill made Union army uniforms here. Major attractions include the Cannelton Cotton Mill, listed a National Historic Landmark and the Cannelton Locks and Dam, which provides recreational water on the Ohio River. One of the best places to visit when you are in Cannelton is the nearby, 1,747-acre Lincoln State Park, which offers camping, boating, fishing, a nature center, 10 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas and swimming.
