About Harrisburg, IL
Harrisburg is a city in, as well as the county seat of, Saline County, Illinois. Today, most of the city's economy is based around the retail industry and industrial jobs are scarce. But at one time, the city was known for coal industry. The city is located just south of the Shawnee National Forest, which brings many tourist to the area. The Harrisburg Community Unit School District 3 serves the students living in the area. The city is also home to the Southeastern Illinois College. The city is home to three community parks, the Harrisburg/Mitchell Carnegie Library, and many places that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Famous people with ties to the city include notorious gangster Charlie Birger and actor Dale Swann.
