The village of Clayton is located in Adams County, Illinois, in the Quincy metro area. Major attractions within minutes of Clayton include the John Roy Site, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and an important prehistoric village associated with the Mississippian culture and the George M. Verity River Museum, an old Mississippi River paddle boat that took passengers from St. Louis to St. Paul.
