Alpine Ear, Nose & Throat

I went to Dr. Capener on two occasions. Once to have my ear worked on and the other time to be checked for cancer. I had fluid in my ear for over a month, he was able to treat the infection. This doctor is thorough, thinks outside the box and really cares about the quality of work. Dr. Capener listens and asks questions rather than jumping to conclusions. Another thing I liked about this doctor is that he will have you try preventative medicine. I really have not had any problems from the work he did. I was referred to him by several acquaintances. One had their hearing restored by him, another who had him help with their thyroid and others who had toncelitis. He is highly skilled and can handle complex problems but knows when patients need the care of a different specialty and will refer those patients for proper treatment by the specialist needed. After so many people recommended him, I tried him and really did have good results. Talk to him personally don't just take ...read more

When my sister broke her finger playing volleyball, we had to decide between the emergency room or coommunity care. We thought the emergency room might be better, but after sitting there for 2 hours, we decided to go to comm care. We got in with 30 minutes and there weren't any complications. I suffered with headaches for over twenty years and have tried just about every type of treatment available. The one thing that Dr. Joe did differently than the rest was that he listened to what I had to say. After two treatments with Dr. Joe, my headaches were gone! You don't even know how much that means to me. I'm able to get back into life and spend time with my grandson. Thank you Dr. Joe and your wonderful staff. ...read more

Treating Your Ailing Extremities

You work hard, you play hard, and you get injured even harder. For most people it’s quite common to ignore the little aches and pains screaming from an ankle, knee, hip, or wrist. In many scenarios a trip to the doctor or ER doesn’t take place until a major injury such as a break or a disc herniation occurs. Unfortunately, many of the smaller injuries that we write-off can be more detrimental to our health as time progresses. While most breaks, herniations, or sprains and strains heal fairly well sooner or later, most people continue to endure the nagging little aches and pains ever since their injury occurred. Many people assume that if the injured area is still intact, functions acceptably, and is not broken or severely damaged then no care is necessary or even possible when in actuality treatments exists for just about any type of injury regardless of how long ago it occurred or how severe it was. One primary form of successful extremity treatment is through chiropractic care. When I mention to people that a chiropractor like myself can adjust ankles, shoulders, ears, and more I often get surprised reactions such as “you can really treat that?” With dedication, proper training, and a focus on the entire body, chiropractors who treat the extremities have the ability to restore joints toward a more normal range of motion with great success. As a result of the joint moving as it’s intended, secondary symptoms such as pain, swelling, neurological/muscular problems, and immobility begin to mitigate. As our bodies age, we usually require more time to heal and any wear and tear within us begins to take a toll. Untreated conditions often snowball into more serious conditions. When people start to ignore those little road bumps in their gait cycle (walking pattern) sooner or later more and more secondary symptoms may appear. One scenario would be a poorly healed sprained ankle with an associated minor limp. In most cases as time progresses the limp worsens and localized joints begin to ache, muscles begin to tighten, and overall health declines. An example would be to walk around for a few minutes wearing a shoe on one foot and nothing on the other. Now imagine walking like this for a few days, weeks, months, or longer. The imbalances occurring in the body can lead to back pain, fatigue, headaches, joint degeneration, and more. That’s why it’s essential to get those nagging little injuries evaluated and treated as early as possible. A good health care provider will take a thorough history regarding the cause of your injury, conduct a physical examination, formulate an appropriate diagnosis and corresponding treatment plan, initiate in-house treatments, and educate you with home rehab exercises. The goal of treatment is to find and repair the source of the problem, not treat the symptoms. As you can see in the above example, someone may overlook the ankle altogether assuming that the pain is originating in the low back region which is why assessing and treating the entire body is recommend. So for those of you have some little aches and pain remember that regardless of your age, regardless of your past injuries, and regardless of how fit you think you are, you may not have your hip moves anymore. So why not improve your health and your extremities with natural holistic chiropractic care today? You’ll feel like you’ve gone back a generation or two. After all, your body deserves it. ...read more

What is chiropractic and is it for me?

What is chiropractic Chiropractic is a natural form of health care which focuses on the treatment and maintenance of the neuromusculoskeletal system (NMS) primarily as well as every other system of the human body. By allowing the body to exist in optimal form, activities of daily living are more functional and pleasurable.      Is it for me Just as regular visits to the dentist, a visit to the chiropractor is very beneficial. Very few people are fortunate to have few or no health care problems. For many people there are areas in the body which may be problematic. In many cases, these areas often go unnoticed for years or until a serious injury occurs. As a chiropractic physician, one goal is to find problematic areas and treat them before they turn into noticeable, chronic areas. While some health care practitioners may appear to know how to treat NMS conditions thoroughly and effectively, it is the chiropractor who has spent the greatest deal of time learning and treating these types of conditions.     The adjustment The primary way that a chiropractor treats a patient is through the application of a chiropractic manipulative therapy or more commonly called an adjustment. A typical adjustment consists of an accurate and specific high velocity, low amplitude controlled force applied to a joint. In other words, an adjustment is a very fast yet shallow push on a joint that is restricted or subluxated. A subluxation is the generic phrase for a bone malposition or joint restriction which results in potential problems to the neuromusculoskeletal system. When an adjustment is made, the joint may produce a popping noise also known as a cavitation. As the adjustment is applied, the joint is moved so quickly that the fluids in the joint create an expanding carbon dioxide bubble. As the joint begins to approximate, the bubble pops creating the classic popping noise similar to when a knuckle in your finger pops. The effects of an adjustment are very therapeutic and include promoting an increase in joint movement, introduction of oxygenated blood and nutrients to the joint, and pain relief to the area via release of enkephalins which are natural pain killers produced by your body.  ...read more

So I crack my own back, what's the big deal?

The desire to crack your neck or back is caused by tension from a jammed or fixated joint segment. This causes other parts of the spine or joint structures in question to compensate by moving too much with the potential of popping a lot. The restricted joints should be adjusted by a chiropractor so that the rest of the spinal column (or joint structure) will become more balanced and move in a more natural motion.      If you continue to self adjust then the joints above or below the restricted area may begin to wear and tear prematurely leading to conditions such as degeneration joint disease and arthritis. In reality, that joint that you think is being adjusted when you crack it yourself usually isn't. It's the training of a chiropractor - not you, not your friend - who has the ability to adjust the restriced joint in question.
