Elkader is the county seat of Clayton County in Iowa. The town was named after Abd Al-Qadir, an Algerian leader resisting French takeover. Major attractions include the Turkey River and the George Maier Rural Heritage Center. Each year in the summer season there is Elkader Sweet Corn Days. Among the biggest companies in Elkader are Keystone Area Education Agency and UBC PRO Build. The biggest schools here are Central Community Junior-Senior High School and Elkader Elementary.
