Health Center of Windermere

5.0

By Joy from Poinciana FL at Citysearch

I have been an inpatient at Health Center of Windermere ("HCW") for rehabilitation for my total knee replacement. I must give 5 stars to HCW in every category. This facility and its staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty in every regard and deserve recognition. I have been treated with the utmost respect, compassion, care, treatment, and professionalism that I could ever imagine. I would name every one to give each individual the recognition they deserve, but space will not permit, so I will name a specific few that I came to know and who are most definitely noteworthy to name here: Admissions: Daniel and Ross; Nursing: Natasha; Physical Therapy: Annie; and CPN: Ophelia. But like I stated previously, all staff at HCW are noteworthy. Generally speaking, the food was plentiful and very good. I was in a private room which was well worth it. I felt spoiled, and the difference paid is well worth the price. Regardless, I am sure that a semi-private room is just fine for most individuals, just from talking with other patients. I didn't even feel like I was in a nursing home; it was more like a 5 star hotel. When I would push the nurse button, there was almost an instant response. My room and the facility is very clean. I had all of the assistance I needed with bathing or using the restroom, had my bed changed daily, my room was cleaned daily, I received pain medication when I asked for it without having to wait, I received personalized meals, my water was changed regularly, my doggies even were permitted. My family, doggies and I would go outside and relax in the beautiful courtyard, and that alone is wonderful therapy. I was asked routinely if everything was okay or if I needed anything. I could not want for more. It is actually difficult to leave HCW. I will miss everyone, and never forget the care, compassion, and outstanding treatment I received while there. I recommend this facility to everyone, either short or long term. Thank you Health Center of Windermere for being there for me when I needed you and for taking such wonderful care of me in my time of need. ...read more

The Cameron Group

By BSS1999 at Citysearch

The Cameron Group was referred to me by some friends to help me with my dad who is78 years old. Dad is forgetting things, and has a disability from the war. As a single parent of 2 and working, I anticipated the day would come when I would not be able to help dad the way I wanted. I went to the Cameron Group for advise. They assisted me with his VA benefits, and discussing the various types of places that could help from assisted living to nursing homes. They also suggested that I use their companions to help dad for a couple hours a day. Their care manager came over and assessed dad and his needs. From then on, I felt comfortable with the advise and help they gave me. I would suggest them to anyone that asked me. They now come over once a week to check on dad and discuss his health care plan with me. Thank you cameron group. ...read more

I would not trust my dog to the Bridge at Orlando. Unfortunately I trusted my father to them. The night staff of the Bridge at Orlando made the decision during their 7-11 shift to leave my father on the floor after he fell and they had difficulty getting him up. They were supposedly checking on him through the night because he was sick. I arrived at 7:30 AM and found him naked from the waist down shaking and conscious yet unresponsive on the floor with an obvious head injury. The staff said they had left him there 'comfortably with a pillow and blanket. What health care professional, the medicine tech in this case, leaves an 86 year old man on the floor and walks off? Apparently the oncoming RN was not concerned because after hearing about him on the floor at 7 AM report did not check on him. In fact it took 45 minutes of paging and searching for her before she even appeared. I had already called 911. The RN said to me there was no need to check on him. He died a month later. ...read more

Dr. Bobek, I am home with mother and have been for a while now. I want you know that for right now, I am not driving; however, I would like to be in the near future. Driving would consist of driving to Publix which is very 3-4 miles from here. I do not know how to reach you and have not been able to get through to anyone at Rosewood that would take a message. To avoid writing a novel, please call me when you have time to discuss this matter. You can reach me at 407-332-8411. Thanking you in advance for your time and cooperation. if you love your peoples, your elders... DO NOT! take them to GUARDIAN CARE NURSING HOME! I am very supportive of the black neighborhood and black owned buisnesses, but I refuse to support black buisnesses that take advantage of blacks(or anyone) who support black buisnesses! Your loveones dont deserve the treament that they WILL recieve from GUARDIAN CARE NURSING HOME 2500 W. CHURCH ST. The roaches are out of control, the customer service is unacceptable, the CNA's and RN's consistantly sleep during the shift, and the only time they do what they are suppose to do is when they know that the state inspectors are coming! This is not anonymous, I stand by what is said in this review!!! Do your family deserve this?!? ...read more

My father told me about an ad he read in his Willaimsburg community newsletter about a dog wedding hosted at Pavilion on June 20th. We attended with his dalmatian, Sammy, and I was so surprised at his reaction. At the party he met with some other people and talked with them the whole time. He didn't want to leave. My father has never wanted to see a "Senior Home" before. I just got off the phone with him and he asked me to find out more about their events.\t\n\t\nHe doesn't live there, but the staff treated him like he did and were very nice and helpful. One of the nurses helped my dad get back in the car when we left. I am impressed with Pavilion and look forward to their next dog event or other parties. ...read more

Why Centenarians Are So Content in Orlando FL

When 100-year-olds make the news, it's usually in the human-interest pages. Last year Emma Hendrickson, 101, became the oldest person ever to compete in the U.S. Bowling Congress Women's Championships, when she rolled a 318 series in Reno, Nev. Harriet Ames, 100, of Concord, N.H., earned her bachelor's degree in January, then died the next day. Providence political operative Frank DiPaolo Jr., 103, still holds down his job as a doorman at the Rhode Island State House. We'll likely hear many more such stories in the coming years, because centenarians—people who have reached 100 years of age—are one of the fastest growing groups in the U.S. The number of triple-digit Americans zoomed from about 37,000 in 1990 to more than 84,000 in 2008, and is expected to reach 580,000 by 2040, according to the Census Bureau. But we should learn a lot from these stories too, because when it comes to independence, money and health, centenarians stand apart from younger seniors. Here is a great article for anyone who is caring for an aging loved one with Alzheimer's .  Visit us at www.chcorl.info orwww.companionhomecare.netfor help with a loved one in the area.  Many Alzheimer's Patients Find Comfort in Books Familiar music can engage those with Alzheimer's when almost nothing else can, researchers have shown. Now it appears that books written for these patients may have a similar effect. Researchers have found in a number of studies that reading can improve a patient's quality of life. The meanings of written sentences can be understood by — and prompt cogent responses from — even those who have difficulty handling verbal exchanges. Caregivers may be surprised to learn that reading ability is not always destroyed by Alzheimer's. Read more byClicking Here. ...read more
