Best Midwife Nomination
I recently found that some of my doula friends were nominated for Best Doula in North Texas Child magazine. I went to their website to vote for my favorite doula, childbirth education program, hospital, etc. I was very surprised to find my name listed under Best Midwife. One of the major ways of learning to be a midwife is to hold an apprenticeship or internship with another midwife. This is how we learn to apply book knowledge to real life situations. For baby's first bath, we do things a little differently. Instead of baby being taken to a nursery to be scrubbed by a strange nurse, mom and baby get to enjoy a nice, warm, herb bath together. The herbs are steeped in hot water with garlic and salt for their antibacterial properties and then added to bath water.
