Hayden is a part of the northwest region of Colorado in Routt County known for it's history in coal mining and it’s stunning mountain views and green scenery. Major attractions include Hayden Heritage Center and Yampa Valley Golf Course‎. Each year in the summer season there is an Independence Day Celebration. First of all I am so grateful to have the Hayden Mercantile! They offer wonderful customer service, great meat selection, and their produce is always fabulous! I once needed fresh herbs for a meal I was making and although the Merc didn't have it, Bill (the owner) gave me fresh herbs from his own garden which his lovely wife grew. It is unfortunate that the review below even made it to this site. Their spelling is atrocious. Also the only store in town has to worry about the 2percent charged by the credit card companythat they will lose if they don't charge-back the customer(I think the charge is built into all prices charged or not). They're no means loosing, they drive the best autos in town, take more vacations than anyone(the wife). In short...they are not poor, but worry about the poor people in the town by the charge if it's not taken back.. Is there a class action available? The town board will not allow another food chain store or mom and pop store...only them. They are not thinking when they quibble over loosing the small amount charged by the bank to them. Get a grip ... the prices reflect and already have the money. Some things are double what the cost is in the next closest store which is in Craig...only some things. The sale paper they have is bar none fab because they are from head corp and truely a deal ....yes deals can be found there and they have very good meats. ...read more

Red Stone Motel

There were 3 of us who purchased guide fees and elk tags. We stayed at the Red Stone Motel for 5 nights, purchased meals from the three restaurants in town, purchased from he grocery store and gas station. I have to say that the room was the worst experience we have ever had on a hunt. Cleanlness was not one of the characteristics, the old radiators were cold and the portable heater did not work. When I called to question how to regulate the heat (no thermostate), a message on my cell phone said that if I didn't like he room, to just leave. "Cindy" didn't want todeal with it, said if I was a real hunter, I would be in the wilderness in a tent, to just leave and the next time"rent" a tent. I give this place less than one star. Unfortunately it's the only motel in Hayden. IF we ever return (have been hunting in CO for 6 years), it most likely wont be out of Hayden. ...read more
