About Rio Linda, CA
Rio Linda is a census-designated place in Sacramento County, California. Rio Linda is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census the population of Rio Linda was 10,466. The Rio Linda area is located on part of the Rancho Del Paso Mexican land grant of 1844. In 1910, part of the area was purchased by the Fruit Land Company and much of the land was turned into subdivisions. By 1913 the area had evolved into a farming and livestock raising community. Families from across the country moved to the area after learning of its excellent poultry raising potential, and the area remains one of the largest producers of poultry in the state. Major attractions in Rio LInda include a world class racetrack, Memorial Race Track, the first race track NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon ever competed on. This area is also well known for its extensive bike trails, especially the Northern Bike Trail, which traverses all of Northern California. Famous persons from Rio Linda include world record track and field triple jumper Sheila Hudson and baseball player Bob Oliver.
