Lockeford, named for Dr. Dean Jewett Locke, a settler, and for the ford on the Mokelumne River, is located in San Joaquin County, California, in the Stockton metro area. Major attractions include Pioneer Hill, where the first cabin in the area was built in 1851 by Dr. Lock and his brother and Locke House, a 22-room, all-brick, neo-Georgian style farm house. One of the best places to visit when you are in Lockeford is the nearby San Joaquin County Historical Society & Museum, which has eight exhibition buildings and four historic buildings and features room dioramas of furniture, a children’s gallery and displays of hand tools and agricultural equipment.
