About Georgetown, CA
Georgetown is located in El Dorado County, California. It has a population of 962 people as of the 2000 census. Georgetown was formerly named Growlersburg due to the history of mining; the nuggets miners found made a growling noise in the pans. It was renamed in honor of George Phipps who was the founder. Georgetown is also registered at number 484 on the California Historical Landmarks. Popular attractions in the area include the many golf courses including the El Dorado Hills Golf Course. The school district is made up of the Black Oak Mine Unified School District.
