Superior Glass, Inc. was founded in 1978, originating from Kempinsky Glass & Paint, which was started in 1925. Today, Superior Glass is one of the largest full service glass shops in the Upper Midwest, specializing in meeting all of your glass needs. Superior Glass serves an area encompassing Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin and provides services that include:

Auto Glass:

Superior Glass was originally Kempinski Glass in the 50's and 60's then changed our name to Superior Glass around 1970. Regardless of the name SGI has served Duluth, MN and Superior, WI Auto Glass needs for over 60 years, as well as commercial and residential glass needs.

The auto glass department has been a strong and growing part of SGI beginning in the mid 80's. The Auto glass industry has changed a lot in the last 25 years and Randy Ellison has rolled well with these changes. He was a one man show until the 90's where they hired a tech and acquired novus Windshield Repair franchise in order to give his clients the best rock chip repair available. Now the auto glass division has 4 full time installers and a full time novus rock chip technician along with 2 locations to serve the Twin Ports with the best possible service possible.

How important is Auto Glass in the event of an accident?

Plenty... the windshield is an important part of the structural integrity of your vehicle. In a rollover accident, the windshield provides strength, by helping to keep the roof from caving in on passengers. In some models the windshield is 50% of the vehicles rollover strength. Also when an airbag is deployed it hits the windshield using it as a back board to then cushion the passenger. If a windshield is installed improperly the airbag will hit the windshield and blow it out, not cushioning the passengers. With the windshield gone there is no way to keep the passengers in the vehicle.
How do I know if my Insurance covers Auto Glass?

Auto glass is typically covered under comprehensive coverage, which you will have if you carry "full coverage" and if you have a deductible that will be out of pocket which you will be responsible for. Some insurance companies will waive your deductible for rock repair.

Will Superior Glass handle my Insurance Paperwork?

Superior Glass will do all of the paperwork for your claim. However some insurance companies may require you to make a phone call to a glass network and set up your claim, which Superior Glass is happy to assist you in making that call.

What do I do if I work the same hours you are opened?

We are a customer service oriented business and we will help by keeping this repair at your convenience in every possible way. If needed we will come to your work, take your car to our shop and return it when the job is finished. If you are coming into our shop to have the work done we will happily drive you to a near by restaurant or store and bring your car to you when finished so you will be able to get something done while getting your vehicle
