Wimauma is a part of the Hillsborough County region/metro area of Florida. As of the 2000 census, the census-designated place had a population of 4,246 and it has a land area of 8.4 square miles. The majority of the population is either under the age of 18 or from the ages of 25 to 44 and the median income for a house is $35,114. Wimauma was founded by Captain C.H. David in 1902, naming the town after the first letters of his daughters names. Wimauma was incorporated in 1925, but was later disincorporated in 1993.
