While we understand the frustration a person must feel when his apartment is broken into, it is important to correct the inaccuracies of "jim's" post.

The first break-in was accomplished by the breaking of the glass on the back door and reaching in to unlock it. We did, in fact, do MORE than attempt to make the apartment more secure - we actually replaced the door with a stronger one that contained no glass, thus preventing a re-occurrence.

The second break-in (which occurred within weeks), the person broke the bedroom window at the back of the apartment and crawled through. As a result, we installed extra security lighting and once the ground thawed, we built a fence to prevent access to the back of the apartment (the complex courtyard). In addition, the Marion Police Department responded to our request for nightly patrols and there have been no additional break-ins at the apartment complex since

I lived at one of their Marion properties through 12-2012. Was broken into twice - they made no attempt to make it more secure. Worse, even though I fulfilled my lease and was essentially with them month-by-month, they wouldn't let me move to another location without signing a new lease for another long-term commitment, even though my personal circumstances prevented me from doing so (I was afraid I would be relocated by my company before lease was up). No regard for renter who paid lease in full every month and took care of my apt. There are a lot of choices in Marion and Carbondale, don't choose Mountain Valley Properties.
