The Tempura Should Come with a Side of Clearasil
My wife & I love trying new restaurants and have passed Mashiko's many times. Tonight we decided to try it....and we'll never go back.
We were curious there was no menu in the window, but then we found out why. Talk about sticker shock! $25 for a Bento??? $13 dollars for a tuna roll? WOW! And a bowl of rice costs extra???? At these prices are you kidding me???!!
Well, my wife was ready to walk but I convinced her to give it a try, at these prices the food must be very special.
It certaintly was special...in it's own disgusting way. I guess they probably fancy themselves some kind of authentic gourmet Japanese restaurant. Well, we've enjoyed sushi & Japanese cuisine all over the western United States and without a doubt the food at Mashiko is the worst we've ever had.
What's the tempura cooked in guys, recycled McDonalds french fry grease? YUCK!
And if I wanted sashimi I would have ordered it; the (baked?) halibut swimming in a pool of grease was completely raw on the inside. Very unappetizing.
Lastly, I guess they think the URL "sushiwhore" is cute. We think it is as low class as the food; albeit it fitting.
Japanese Food ""NOT""
My husband & I love Japanese food, but this place is not Japanese food. My husband orderd Tempura & I ordered the Bento Box like we do at several Japanese restaurants we go too. Tempura was ""VERY GREASY"" & the only thing I enjoyed here was the green tea. It's overpriced for what you order & we both left feeling hungry still. The fish dishes in the Bento box tasted funny & I left 3/4's of the meal because it was so bad. We won't tell our family or friends to try this place and we won't be back.

It's interesting how I read that folks have had a horrible time with the wait staff but each and everytime we go to Mashiko, they've always been courteous and professional.
The food is superb and the chefs are always ready for a challenge and offer up some very tasy dishes. I love the seasonal selections and just have whatever the sushi chef has in mind.
I've been to lots of sushi restaurants, here and around the country, and this is one of the best I've been to.
