BarrWood Cabinets

5.0

By Kevin Sasser

m pretty sure our kitchen was a cabinet installers nightmare. Our house is old, settled, and there’s not a straight line anywhere to be found within the floors, walls, or ceiling. But the team at Barrwood pulled off a miracle and gave us the kitchen of our dreams. Our project started with the Barrwood team really listening to what we wanted to accomplish, with the space available, and then coming up with a custom layout for us. The cabinets where delivered to our home on time, matched their descriptions and where of the quality that was promised. The implementation team went to work, bringing beauty to chaos. The time and the level of precision used was very impressive. One of the team members went to great lengths to compensate for a dip in our ceiling so that the finished lines of the crown moulding where crisp and clean. These guys bring a real passion to their work. We highly recommend them. ...read more

If you are not using the Done For You Services, you really should. Things do not happen overnight but they do happen. I was impatient at the beginning, as Beth T. Compton can testify to, but things are really starting to happen. I have done over half the inspection so far this year that I have been doing. That means that if things keep up, I will be doing 4 times the inspections this year. We are getting things in place right now to start hiring inspectors and an outside marketing person. Went from almost giving up last November to really moving forward now. Done For You Services are the best thing could have happened to us. Thank you Savvy! ADVANCED LIPID TESTING

ADVANCED LIPID TESTING Every day offers us an opportunity to start fresh and take responsibility for our own health. Besides a healthy mental outlook on life, we need to examine three major preventive medical aspects in our lives to ensure a long healthy quality of life. First, we need preventive medicine for internal monitoring of our health and putting out fires before they do damage. Secondly, managing (of getting to) optimal weight that is achieved by harmonious integration of eating properly, correct excursive and active lifestyle. And third, is smoking cessation. Medical programs now have over 65% successful quit rates. The advancement in medical science is providing us with powerful tools to forecast and prevent major events. The Advanced lipid testing lab testing is a new and innovative way to check cholesterol, genetics and overall risk for heart and vascular disease. Genetic testing is the newest arsenal is our tools to fight heart disease. We can now test whether you have an early heart attack gene, if a Statin (cholesterol lowering drug) is right for you, if certain drugs such as Plavix (anti-platelet drug given to patients with stents) will work on your body, if alcohol will increase or decrease your good cholesterol and even if aspirin is effective on your body to prevent heart disease. The Advanced lipid testing also gives you an in-depth cholesterol panel that is very different than the standard lipid panel. The basic cholesterol panel that you have done during your annual physical checks your total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol). The Berkley test goes much further and breaks down the LDL and HDL into further “bad and good categories” For example LDL- the bad cholesterol can actually be broken up into 4 different particles 1 being Labeled as ” good” 2 being “bad” and one particle called IVb being very dangerous. There are also multiple marker of inflammation that the Berkley lab test does such as Fibrinogen, CRP and homocysteine levels tell us what kind of disease process is happening in your vessels. Advanced lipid testing gives us better knowledge which translates to significantly improved care for each individual. The Barkley Lab test is covered by most insurance and free for all Medicare patients. Please ask your physician about the Advanced lipid testing if you think you have, may have or have a family history of heart disease. Dr. Monika Yadav ...read more

HEALTHY WEIGHT

Happy Spring! Yes, I realize I changed the very well-known slogan to yet again fulfill my informative needs. As the seeds of the season begin to blossom, the predictable influx of abashed patients ensues. This phenomenon is not new and occurs like clockwork around this time. What is the regretful issue? Post-holiday weight gain. “I’ve fallen off the wagon, Doc…” . It happens in the majority of people… especially those over the age of 35. And most of my patients want the quick easy fix, instant gratification. The problem with this concept is why I changed the words in the title to suit my following advice. In achieving most life-altering goals, and especially weight loss, one must experience PAIN on multiple levels. And not just physically, but also mentally. There is a popular misconception that we can continue with certain ways of life and habits after age 35. Most of us can’t. There has to be more sacrifices and discipline as we age. This is what I see is desperately lacking in today’s majority mindset. As we age our metabolism slows and we naturally lose muscle—2 things much needed to burn calories. Therefore, it’s of the utmost importance to push the system in order to see results. How can this be done? There is far more caloric effectiveness with drastically changing the way we perceive food. Instead of meals being something to look forward to and indulge in, it must be considered just a way to sustain a functioning body. As the years have passed the sources of sustenance have deranged into highly fattening, processed junk. Perhaps when we were cave people a high carb and salt diet were required to thrive—avoiding infection and famine. But now in the 21st century, those things aren’t needed… especially in the most developed and powerful nation. I think that’s where part of the problem lies. Studies show that as our great nation has grown, so has our appetite. “Portion distortion” has taken over. The sizes of meals and snacks are outrageous nowadays. For years our brains have been wired a certain way. Eat 3 square meals with dinner being the largest, cheat during holidays—well, every day can convert into some kind of special day—every year more and more are added to the calendar, not to mention sporting events and award shows to add to the excuses list. Exercise does not help us lose weight (unless you are doing Olympic level activity). It aids in maintaining your current weight. It has other benefits like expanding the lungs and conditioning your joints. If done at an aerobic rate, it can shape up your heart. After a certain age, yoga is more beneficial than boot-camping. It builds muscle, improves flexibility, and helps with mental stability. Now seen more in the West, it has to be more understood and embraced. Buck up. No more excuses. Experience pain. Calorie count. Choose organic. Become regimented. Celebrate holidays with laughter and words rather than with food. It will take baby steps, but it can be done with patience and diligence. And in the long run will prove more successful in staying on that wagon for a life time of traveling down healthy roads! Dr Monika Yadav ...read more

INSOMNIA

Good Morning, really?!Actually, I know it’s not going to be as good of a morning or entire day for that fact, because I didn’t get my much needed 6 hours of sleep. I suffer from sleep deprivation occasionally— and that term is relative because my father has always performed on target with 4 hours of sleep and my mother needs at least 8 hours to uphold her usual “Mary Poppins” status. But studies have shown that at an average adult needs at least 4 hours of concentrated sleep in order to function normally. And according to studies and what I see continually in my office, 30% of Americans are suffering from chronic insomnia. So, if you’re up before the break of dawn reading this article, chances are that a few of your neighbors are as well. Insomnia is defined as difficulty initiating sleep or maintaining sleep, waking up too early, or experiencing sleep that is chronically poor in quality. There is a myriad of consequences that arise from insomnia. These include short-term memory loss, depression, irritable mood, decreased energy, low libido, increased rate in crashes and workplace errors, respiratory problems, increased blood pressure, depressed immunity, increased appetite and obesity, chronic headaches and GI symptoms, continuous anxiety about not being able to sleep well, and an overall poorer quality of life in general. So it comes to no surprise that there is an increased mortality rate in those that don’t get at least 4 hours of concentrated sleep each night. Sleep is really not given the respect it deserves in this country. Although born and raised in America, I have travelled immensely all over the world. While in Spain with my sister, we begrudgingly waited for 2 hours after lunch for a major bank to re-open because it is customary for businesses to shut down for an afternoon siesta. And in India major towns don’t begin to bustle until 11 a.m. after people leisurely awake and have eaten a hearty breakfast. I somewhat understand the pressures of being the most powerful country in the world and what it takes to maintain the status—but, come on now, let’s remember to stop and smell the roses, breathe, stretch, SLEEP…. And I only stress this point because danger lurks with insomnia. There are other things that can cause sleep deprivation, such as medical conditions, psychiatric issues, neurological diseases, sleep disorders, and medications. Several therapies have been developed and approved for insomnia. If you may suffer from this common and chronic problem, please don’t ignore it for too long because it’s taking a toll on many obvious and hidden aspects of your life. Dr. Monika Yadav ...read more
