A must miss on Alberta

When we sat down we probably should have known from the wafting smell of rotting milk that this was likely to be a less than pleasurable meal. . .

We couldn't get the beverage we wanted because their seltzer wasn't working, ok, this is understandable. Our burger arrived raw and needed to be sent back... mistakes happen.

The bun was slathered with peanut butter, under the patty... odd.

Christopher, the cook/owner, seasons french fries with SUGAR! Very difficult to understand and unpleasant. So I mentioned to our server that I didn't really like the seasoning. She took the feedback to the, very open, kitchen and i heard "too f&*^%#$ing bad" I just looked at him and said, "I heard that, not a great customer service move."

If you are going to make such a bold move as to season your french fries with sugar, please mention it on the menu! It's very difficult how he could have so little pride in his business that he will aggressively insult customers.

What do you want to know?

My partner and I just had, perhaps, the best dinner of our lives. Dinner is new to Francis. And with the AMAZING spread they have, I have to ask, "why?" Our dinner tasted like generations of secrets. Yet I am grateful that their dinner is still a secret...$12 for a generous helping of the most perfectly seasoned BRAISED LAMB or RAINBOW TROUT we have ever had. A steal! I think we were seriously moaning throughout the meal. We complimented the chef many times, and threatened to kidnap him (a crime which would be new to both of us, but we could manage). I cannot say enough about it. To top it off, the meal opened with a signature cornbread (with peppers) topped with a delicious honey butter. OMG! Go try it ASAP. We'll be back again soon. Not to mention, the service was lively, responsive and interactive: a real and interesting person, to say the least: rare in my dinner experiences in Portland.

not a good place to eat!

Just had the worst breakfast experience at a place called Francis on Alberta. The restaurant smelled like urine in both places we were sat. The place had an overall dirty feel. There were ants crawling on the table and the condiments. The food was ...barely edible, with a dried out biscuit covered in a runny country-ish gravy and dried out ham. I have had better experiences in third world country and I would definitely not recommend this place.
