About Lewiston, ID
History says the explorers Lewis and Clark were the first people of European descent to visit the area of northern Idaho that includes the city of Lewiston. For that reason, the town bears one of the men's names and its twin city of Clarkston, Washington, just across the state border, carries the other. Lewiston is situated on the Snake River near its confluence with the Clearwater River, giving the area remarkable fishing opportunities. It is also the gateway to Hell's Canyon, which is the deepest gorge in America.
