Reviews about Boston Harbor Sailing Club
Good sailing experience
I can't let the 2 previous reviews (obviously written by the same person about the same experience) stand unanswered. BHSC's owner certainly isn't warm and fuzzy, and he does have his off-putting ways, but he is a pro. I've sailed there for two years in their Albin 28s and have signed up for a 3rd in their Gold level (33-footers). I have 35 years of sailing experience, so I have some idea of what's reasonable to expect from a fleet of older boats. BHSC's boats are safe and in good operating condition. Not perfect, but even new boats aren't perfect, and I've found the staff to be quite responsive about fixing what's broken.\t\n\t\nBottom line: Lots of good sailing at BHSC. \t\n\t\nIncidentally, if you're just beginning, I recommend starting at Community Boating, Inc. on the Charles River. Learn to sail there, take advantage of their free training to sail on their harbor trips and become a harbor trip skipper. After you have some experience, then you can "graduate" to one of the harbor clubs, like BHSC.

became a member to enjoy the Boston waters, but the people who run this outfit don't seem to care about the state of the boats or the experience their customers have. Boats, smell, malfunction in many ways, and are as old as John McCain. The grumpy old man that run the place is downright creepy, and unfriendly. They may be cheap, but they take away the joy and love of sailing the way they treat you. Stay far away.
