TOTAL RIP OFF!!!! All talk, no substance

Go to this place only if you like the idea of your vet caring more about making money than the welfare of you pet. THe vets here goes on and on in medical terms, talking about pathogens and GI tract.. etc... recommending expensive treatments and under medicating to make you come back for more visits. (=more $$$)\t\n\t\nDay 1- Brought my puppy there to get treated for Kennel cough, was told she did not need medication for that, but vet recommended fecal examination. Paid $102 for consultation.. (without fecal lab examination)\t\n\t\nDay 3- Puppy's cough worsens. I called the vet and she claims it is hard to do a phone diagnosis and to bring my pup back to the clinic. She dispenses antibiotics and go ahead with the fecal lab. Paid $130. (for consultation and meds and fecal lab.)\t\n\t\nDay 4- Got a call fromVet saying puppy's was tested positive for Giardia and needed to be on meds for that. So I went to the vet again to get meds. $35\t\n\t\nin the next few days, I met people in the park who had pups with kennel coughs and said that they were treated with antibiotics and they were cured in a few days. \t\n\t\nDay 6- Puppy's cough worsens. Kennel called me to ask if pup was doing ok, and when they found out which meds the vet dispensed, told me that the pup needs to be on stronger antibiotics and not the ones the vet gave.\t\n \t\nI called the vet, and she suggested giving a cough suppressant, and an X-Ray ( which would have cost $250). Stating reasons that she needs to know exactly the cause of my pup's cough etc. I resisted, and asked if stronger antibiotics would help. She then says. Yes, that's a good idea as it is better to have a wider spectrum antibiotics. (so why didnt she do that from day 1?!?!?! Why do the X-ray even???) I gave in.\t\n\t\nI called the vet at the kennel to find out what they use treat their pups with Kennel cough and they told me to ask the vet at Back bay veterinary to dispense Doxycycline for a week and only if the cough doesnt get better, then go ahead with the x ray.\t\n\t\nCalled the vet at BB veterinary to request for that, and she took offence (even after telling me that if I didnt have confidence in her practice, she wouldnt take offence if I sought a second opinion), after her whole speech on how she is not comfortable with being told what to dispense, her ending line was: "i will dispense Doxycycline, just come get it.". and slams down the phone even before I could say anything.\t\n\t\nBrought my pup to another vet today, and the first thing the new vet said was,.. she SHOULD have been on doxycycline from day 1!!! Even if she did have a X ray or cough suppressants, she WOULD have to be on Doxyxycline. And if we just keep waiting out, the cough might become something more serious like pneumonia!!!!!\t\n\t\nI do not really care about how much money I spent, I just wanted my pup to feel better. She was really miserable and has not been sleeping, keeping up awake.. PLUS, i've been going back and forth to the vet like an idiot.\t\n\t\nSTAY AWAY!!!! Nice only when they can earn your money. But once you outsmart them, they slam the phone down on you!

Rip off Vets!

Ok, I've been reading some of the positive reviews for this place and there is no doubt that they are friends or colleagues writing these "positive" reviews.\t\n\t\nI'm not going to write my long ordeal but I advise pet owners to go ahead and make an appointment for a shot. Be prepared for numerous charges without you knowing about it. There excuse...well your pet needed them. \t\nOh, I had no idea my pet was asking for additional services. \t\n\t\nBanfield by far is the best in terms of low visit fees, heartworm tests, nail trimming (better job) and they will always ask if you would like anything else rather than surprising you with the bill.

high priced, low quality care

we were patients for a few years, giving the office many chances, yet we would go for a simple checkup and come out with a problem (i.e. in for shots, out with eye conjunctavitis)...this happened more than once--possibly the rooms aren't so clean, and the doc's do not wash their hands between animals...there is a revolving door of doctors, technicians and and front office help...and they charge for anything & everything.
