About Amicus Bouchea Center for Learning

Thank you for your interest in Amicus! It has been our pleasure to support men and women who have intellectual and other disabilities since 1971. As a private, non-profit organization, our primary mission is to provide supports, programs and services that enhance the quality of life and independence of people with disabilities. Through a range of individualized services we seek to promote abilities and achievements that contribute to self-respect, personal development, purposeful work, and meaningful participation in the community. Amicus offers Case Management services in multiple counties in Maine. Through Person Centered Planning our Case Managers assist each person with discovering his or her personal goals and with developing a plan for achieving them. We currently base our community and employment support for over 400 individuals in cheerful and accessible facilities at three locations in Bangor. Our buses and vans can be seen in all of our local areas as our program participants take part in the life of their community. Individuals in Amicus day programs have a very wide range of abilities and challenges. We make every attempt to individualize a personal support plan and work to enhance abilities as well as to address disabilities. We are committed to involving each individual, their families if desired, and other professionals in development of a plan to increase independence, to support growth in all areas, and to encourage a balanced and healthy life. Our staff is professional and caring in their approach and has specific expertise in communication and behavioral support. We have speech, occupational, physical and behavioral consultants on staff. Among many activities, Amicus offers highly developed and interesting art and writing experiences that have been highlighted in newspaper and television articles. Supports for employment and work readiness are core activities for our agency and a benefit to many local businesses. Our programs are as complex as the individuals that we support. If you are interested in learning more about a specific program we would love to hear from you!
