Economy Sucks! How Do I Stay in Business?
In this trying economical time, many of us are struggling with where and how to connect with our customers. Conventional advertising such as newspapers and other print medias seem to have fallen by the wayside. One, because the response doesn't seem to justify the absorbent amount of cost. With one factor staring us in the face, readership is WAY down. Then there is the internet, yes that is where everyone is going, but where exactly? Yeah Facebook, twitter...but how do you reach your customer base in that huge global community? One answer is to go to all the free "LOCAL" directories out there and get yourself registered and listed on their sites. This will help your Google standing allowing you to be on the front 2 pages of a persons Google search, because if you aren't there, your not going to be found. You know everybody is in a "hurry". The next is to see if any of these directories are a real community based, someone that lives there is running it, more than just a directory but some place where the locals can go for information of what is available and happening in their community. They can get local coupons, they can find out where to go for assistance with schools, charity groups...yes many people are really struggling out there. The site should have a kids/family section, a forum where people can talk, get some input from others...community right now it is essential for the survival of our businesses, our families and our way of life as Americans. Our business is down because people, "our customers and potential customers" are having to make tough decisions on how to spend their dollar. So those of us that have businesses need to be the best in customer service (what a concept). We need to make sure that our products are of value to our customers. We need to give them incentives, give them a coupon/discount. We need to be interactive with our customer base. What? how do you do that? Today you do not have to have a website, it's great if you do but it is not necessary. If you have a good local directory, you should be able to get a listing where you can add a picture(s) of your business or service(s)/product(s). If your a restaurant get your menu posted. Be able to have a coupon that you can change at least monthly if not weekly. There should be a description page that you should be able to go in and edit when ever you wish. This is where you can have some interaction with your clients. Post a survey and tell them to respond by email. It could be as simple as what sandwich is your favorite? Tell about the specials this week or for the month, but change it up so they come back to see what's new. Get them interested in your business, because you show an interest in them. For those of you that are old enough to remember, it means going back to how we use to do business. Slowing down, taking the time to get to know our customers, listen to our customers, take care of our customers. Being more hands on. For those of you that are younger, we use to call it full service. If you went to get a pair of shoes, someone waited on you, got the shoes for you and helped you try them on. They knew about their products and could help you make a better, informed choice for your money. People are looking for that right now and need that. If America is going to get back to being the leader in industry and business we have to go back to the old ways. We have to be innovative. We need to go back to producing things. If you love carving wood, sewing/designing clothes, making purses or belts...do it and get yourself out there in a local directory. Write a blog tell people what your doing. I think you will be amazed at how much these services are needed. Good Luck in whatever type of business you have or will decide to pursue.
