What to Include in a Nail Care Kit

Having a well-stocked nail care kit can save you both money and time. Your nails are one of the most important features on your body. It may not seem so, but others notice how well your hands, feet and nails look. Unless you prefer to have a professional do your manicures and pedicures, they are easy to do yourself. You only need the right supplies.

• Nail clippers: Your nail care kit should contain one or two nail clippers. One for fingernails and one for toenails. You can also purchase a large nail clipper that works for both your hand and feet.


• Nail files: Files come in very handy for smoothing out irregular, snagged or broken nails. There are several types including: metal, emery board, glass and crystal. However, emery boards are very popular and come in many sizes and textures.


• Buffer block: Buffers work to shine and enhance the appearance of nails. They smooth without damaging the nail bed. They come with four different sides to smooth, file, shine and even out ridges.


• Cuticle remover: If you have trouble with unruly cuticles, then try a cuticle remover. This tool has a sharp tip that you use to gently cut away dry, damaged or excess nail cuticles.


• Nail polish remover: Acetone or non-acetone nail polish remover cleans the nails. There several types that are made with moisturizers to keep the nail bed hydrated. It should reduce breaking nails.


• Cuticle cream or oil: Keep your cuticles and nails strong and healthy with cuticle cream or oil.


• Orange sticks/cuticle pushers: You can include orange sticks in your kit. They are used to push back overgrown cuticles and remove dirt from underneath nail tips.


• Base coat and top coat: You need these two for perfecting your manicure or pedicure. The base coat helps nail polish adhere better to the nails. The top coat adds protection, lasting power and shine to the nail polish.


• Polish: You will need several bottles of good nail polish. The colors should enhance your skin tone as well as express who you are. Also make sure to have a bottle of clear nail polish. It works well for keeping nails strong and creating a polished, natural look.
