What is Mold Remediation?
Mold remediation is the process of removing mold from a home or other building. Doing mold remediation on your own can be a tough job, but it is possible. This article will provide you with information on how you can do mold remediation in your own home.
Containing the Mold
It is very important to find and contain mold as soon as possible so it cannont spread into any uncontaminated areas and cause a bigger problem. Hidden moisture meters and fiber optic devices are two types of tools that are commonly used to find mold. Air-tight containment walls are used to keep the mold from spreading.
Killing the Mold
To kill the mold, you will want to spray your home with a fungicide. Spray the fungicide in all rooms, the basement, the attic and any heating and cooling ducts. Let the fungicide dry completely. Once the fungicide has dried, spray all of the rooms again with boric acid. Always remember to wear protective gear when using fungicide and/or boric acid.
Removing Dead Mold
To complete the mold remediation process, you must remove the dead mold from your home. Use a vacumn to remove any dirt or dust that might contain mold spores. Next, use a sponge and boric acid to scrub any surface that has been exposed to mold. Make certain to throw the sponges away afterwards. The surface can only be considered mold-free if no mold is visible.
