Types of Speciality Hardware Tools
Whether you are repairing cabinetry, putting up a door, or installing a window screen you will need the right tool to get the job done correctly. Specialty hardware tools are used for specific purposes when working with hardware. There are several types of specialty tools for hardware and household use.
Drills
Drills are used to make holes in wood and other surfaces, as well as install or remove screws. They even come cordless, run off battery power, and are most often less powerful than those connected to a power outlet. Drills come with a variety of bits or tips that are specifically designed to fit a specific screw. Common uses include installing knobs and pulls on drawers, closet doors, mirrors and cabinets.
Pneumatic hammer
A pneumatic hammer is different from a regular hammer because it is power driven. Often called forging hammers, they are used to break holes in concrete foundations. They are powered by steam, mechanics or air and much more powerful than a human muscle powered hammer. They are often used to break up old home foundations before beginning new construction.
Miter saw
Miter saws are used to make precise cuts in wood for drawers, picture frames and other wooden materials. They are small portable machines with blades, usually eight inches to a foot in diameter. The saw blade sits over a base, or fence, that measures the wood pieces using a miter index. Miter saws are different from regular saws with the ability to make such incremental cuts. They come with standard, compound and dual compound features.
Impact wrench
An impact wrench is a special type of wrench. It is designed for a high amount of torque, or tightness, that cannot be achieved by human muscle power alone. They are most often powered by compressed air but can also use battery or electrical power. They are used to tighten nuts and bolts on drawers and cabinets.
Freon gauge
Freon gauges are used to approximate the amount of freon in air conditioning units or heat pumps. Freon must be metered in the correct amount to work properly and conserve energy. A gauge helps determine if there is enough freon or to much in the system.
