Types of Solar Pool Covers

Solar pool covers are a nice option when you have a swimming pool. Pool covers keep out dirt and leaves when you are not using the pool and provide several benefits. Pool chemicals are expensive and solar pool covers can help to retain chemicals, water and heat. Types of solar pool covers come in tinted aqua or clear. Popular solar pool covers include vinyl covers, full covers, circular blankets and reel covers.

Vinyl Covers

Vinyl pool covers are placed on the water and prevent water from evaporating. Located in the center of a vinyl pool cover is special, lightweight insulation, which makes the cover buoyant. Some manufactures make vinyl pool covers with central drains. This style can come in handy if snow or rainwater builds up and you need to be able to drain water from the top.  Vinyl covers take up very little room for storage and the vinyl material tends to last longer than bubble styled covers.

Full Covers

Save time, money and energy with full solar covers. Full cover designs help to prevent water evaporation. With less water evaporation you retain more of your expensive pool chemicals. This means chemicals will not have to be replaced as frequently and can save you money. Full solar covers for both aboveground and in-ground pools float upon the waters surface. This cover reaches every side of the pool in addition to retaining water and chemical it also holds in the heat.

Circular Blankets

Circular blankets are another solar pool cover option. They may not fit all pool designs, but they do have their advantages. They come in several different sizes and are very light weight. Because these are so light it makes it extremely easy to put them on and just toss them off. Often called circular rugs, they can be pulled part way back from a portion of the pool for swimming in one area, rather than removing the entire circular cover.

Reel Covers

Reel covers offer a unique advantage to other pool cover styles. They work on a reel system with a crank that allows you to roll or unroll the pool cover easily. In addition, the reel rolls up the cover into a neat, compact roll ready for the next use.
