Types of Hostels
Hostels are located in about every country, most commonly in Europe. They offer lodging to travelers that are on a budget and looking for affordable accomodations. Hostels are classified as city hostels or country hostels, although a few places have started themed hostels. Hostels usually don't offer much in the way of amenities, but they are more affordable than a hotel.
A hostel is an affordable place for tourists to stay. They are very popular for backpackers, students and hitchhikers. They generally have dorm-style rooms, although some are offering private rooms now. Hostels are popular because of the price. They are much cheaper than a hotel, although there is no mini fridge and plush bed. Bathrooms are shared. Hostels are all over Europe, but the United States has some as well.
The two best known types of hostels are the city and country hostels. City hostels are more for the social aspect. People stay at these because they want to be close to different activities and nightlife. Country hostels are generally quieter and for people traveling through the countryside. Themed hostels are starting to gain popularity, and there are some pretty unique ones out there.
City hostels
Almost every major city in Europe has at least one city hostel. These are booked up during the weekends. People enjoying staying at a city hostel because of its proximity to the nightlife and tourist activities. City hostels are not a good place to stay if you are looking for peace and quiet. The bedrooms, bathrooms and common rooms are shared, and people do come in and out all hours of the night. You can expect loud talking, laughing, and partying.
Country hostels
Country hostels are much quieter than there city counterpart. People usually don't stay at these very long. They are just passing through, or there specifically to see the countryside for a few days. Although the rooms are shared here, it is generally much quieter and peaceful. You can expect to have shared bathrooms, common rooms, etc.
Themed hostels
Some really neat themed hostels are popping up all over the world. These hostels are not your traditional lodging. Kadir's Tree House in Turkey offers 45 themed hostels made into treehouses. These hostels give travelers a little bit of variety. They are generally only one story, and the prices may be a bit more than your typical hostel.
