Types of Graphic Design Jobs

Embarking on a career in graphic design can offer you many different opportunities. There are several different types of jobs available for those working with graphic design and you can choose a concentration in the area of graphic design that most interests you.

Illustrator
An illustrator is a graphic designer who draws images using two-dimensional or three-dimensional designs. They work with different types of print such as; books, magazines and other types of publications. They also work with many different materials to create their illustrations such as; pencil, paint, markers and computers for digital formatting.


Photo editor
Graphic designers working in a photo editing position tend to use programs like Photoshop to bring their images to life. They often create magazine layouts, billboards and logos for different companies using computer editing programs. 


Web designer
Working in a web designer position allows you to create different graphics for web pages. You may work on creating the web page using designated software and then add to the page by creating a number of different unique graphics designed on the computer. You often work for companies or private clients when in this position.


Layout artist
A layout artist works in the graphic design field and works with the layouts of texts and images before they are printed. When in this position, you often have the last word on the designs layout and are able to change the design around to your liking. A layout artist often works with different types of media prints.
