Tools for Concrete Construction Finishing
As with any construction project, the proper tools can make or break the finished project. Concrete construction finishing requires its own special sets of tools to complete the work. There are various ways of purchasing these tools, include construction companies, online retailers or hardware stores. For short term use or once only needs, renting the equipment is a wise choice.
- Spreaders and rakes. These tools even out the concrete finish and direct concrete where it should be distributed. It prevents clumping of concrete and is used when it is still wet concrete.
- Straight Edgers. Straight edgers remove excess concrete hiding in crevices and cracks. This tool also removes any excess concrete that hangs over smooth corners or surfaces.
- Groovers. This device is used to create breaks, lines or designs in still wet concrete. Next time you walk across a sidewalk and skip the cracks, you can thank a groover for these lines. Groovers are often referred to as jointers.
- Bullfloat. A bullfloat is a rake like device, usually with two handles that evens out concrete that is not completely set. The device assures an even topcoat for the concrete finish.
- Concrete Broom. Some workers claim that any soft surface broom will do the job of a concrete broom. However, a concrete broom is made for a specific purpose and is a better choice. This broom levels out any small particles that are on the top of the concrete surface and is used when it is mostly set.
- Wood Hand Floats. This tool is used to level out a mostly dry concrete finish. The difference between it and other smoothing devices is the size. A wood hand float is small and used on small services.
- Brushes. While brooms offer smoothing for large surfaces, a brush serves the same purpose but for a smaller service.
- Concrete Stencils. Various designs are created with concrete stencils. These stencils are used with mostly dry concrete.
