Tips on Storing Moving Boxes
Moving can be a daunting task, especially if you move several times throughout the year due to military, work or other reasons. If you do move a lot, storing moving boxes may become essential so that you don't have to keep purchasing new moving boxes or going store to store to pick up boxes to pack. Here are some tips on storing moving boxes so that you don't have to continue to purchase them.
- Keep all thicker boxes such as banana and apple boxes that have lids over those that are smaller and made of flimsy cardboard. You can pack more into these boxes and they are designed to hold heavier items.
- Keep all the boxes to your breakable items so that you can easily pack them back up. If these boxes included a Styrofoam piece inside the box so that nothing gets broken, it is advisable to keep the Styrofoam as well.
- Keep all boxes in a dry place. A warm, dry place is preferable as the cold can weaken the cardboard and make it less strong.
- Place smaller boxes inside larger boxes to save space. The more boxes you can stack inside of others like Russian stacking dolls, the more room you have for other items that need to be stored.
- By breaking down boxes, you are able to store more of them. However, each time you take apart a box and tape it back together, you are weakening the box making it less stable each time you need to use it.
- Be sure that the area you are storing your boxes in does not have rats, mice or other pests. They often shred cardboard and use it as bedding, leaving you with no useable boxes.
