Things to Have in Your Retirement Home
Retirement is a time in life where relaxation and enjoyment is predominant. Most retirees have worked more than 30 years before they are able to retire. If you are close to retirement or currently retired, you may want to think about preparing your home for this time in your life. A retiree’s home needs a few essential items to make life a little easier.
Telephone – Having a phone, whether a land line or cell phone, in your retirement home is necessary not only to keep in contact with others, but also to use in case of an emergency. You may want to have a home security system installed. This system can also react in case of emergency and may be more effective than a phone.
Entertainment – This can be a variety of items. Entertainment is simply something to do when no activities have been arranged. A television is a good form of entertainment; however, you may want something to stimulate the brain and more challenging than watching TV. Purchase some puzzles or crossword books. These are excellent forms of entertainment. You may also want to have a computer set up. A computer is not only entertaining, but also a way to connect and stay in touch with others.
Food/Kitchen – To avoid going out for every meal--which can become quite costly--you need to have a kitchen or kitchenette and somewhere to store food. Your retirement home may be located in a community housing unit that includes meals in the monthly charges. Even if food is offered, you might still want some snacks like popcorn, fresh fruits or granola bars. Having a solid food supply will make living and eating much more enjoyable, and at times independent, which can feel good.
