Purpose
The Family Doctor Association is an educational charity. The purpose of the Family Doctor Association also known as the FDA is to promote the importance of continuity of care in healthcare among general practitioners. The FDA supports GPs who offer continuity of care to their patients. The FDA promotes the idea of continuity of care by educating healthcare leaders and organizations.
Continuity of Care
Continuity of care is the principal of allowing a patient to make the decisions regarding their healthcare options. Continuity of care allows the patients to receive their healthcare from a doctor they choose, who is located in their community and also allows the patients to continue to see that doctor for all of their health issues instead of being referred to specialists for certain conditions.
Members
The Family Doctor Association is comprised of over 1000 general practitioners who believe in offering a patient the opportunity to receive continuity of care. The GPs who are members of the FDA aim to give their patients high quality medical care in a friendly personal environment where a patient is treated as a person not as a number on a chart. General practitioners serve as the family doctor and provide healthcare to the entire family on an ongoing basis.
