Process of Obtaining an Auto Rental After an Accident

Auto rentals are available to insured drivers after an auto accident. Most rental companies offer a wide variety of automobile types. However, the type of car you receive may be subject to how much coverage you have. When in doubt, call your auto insurance provider.

Process of Obtaining an Auto Rental After an Accident

Step 1: Report the accident. Call the police immediately. The police will create a police report of the accident. This report will detail information to include: who was at fault, how the accident occurred, who was injured, and what damage occurred.

Step 2: Call your auto insurance provider. The auto insurance representative will provide information you need to file your claim for this accident. They will provide you with information pertaining to rental car coverage. If you have this coverage, they will provide you with information pertaining to which rental car company you should contact.

Full coverage auto insurance will provide you with coverage for the cost of a rental car. However, realize that a lower level of auto insurance may require the party at fault to obtain the rental car. If this is the case, you may not receive your rental car immediately.

Step 3: Call the rental car agency. Call the rental car agency that your insurance company suggested. Depending on the stipulations of your coverage you may have the ability to choose which type of rental car you receive. In most cases the rental car agency will bring the car to your location. You should check with your auto insurance provider to verify if this is the case.

Step 4: Signing the rental contract. Review this contract carefully before signing. This way you will detect any hidden charges ahead of time. You should provide the rental car agency with the following: your driver's license, a valid credit card to cover possible damage, and your insurance policy information.
