How to Wire Home Security Surveillance

Home security systems protect any area inside of your home. You can wire your own home security surveillance system purchases from an electronics store or security supply center. You can wire it to a receiver to your television set. This allows you to watch any area of your home. 


  1. Place your security camera on a cabinet, shelf, bookcase or mount it on your wall. Try to aim the camera in an area where you want to monitor your home. If you prefer to mount the camera on your wall, use a Phillips screwdriver and wooden screws.

  2. Plug the security camera's power cord into an open wall outlet to supply power to the camera. If your camera's power cord is not long enough, use an extension cord to power it up.

  3. Connect the connection plug of your camera into the appropriate in and then connect the other end of the connection plug to the connection port of your security camera. Use a longer cable if the distance between your television and security camera is too far.

  4. Run the camera cable along your baseboard of your wall. Run along the base of your wall until it reaches your television you are using to monitor your home. Use a staple gun with U-clamp staples to staple the security camera cable to your baseboard.

  5. Place your security camera's receiver y your television set. Insert the composite or a cable into your receiver's "video output" jack. Insert the other end of your cable into your television's "video inputs" on the rear or side panel of your television set. Insert your camera's connection plug into the connection port on your camera's receiver.

  6. Turn on your security camera and then turn on your television. Grab the remote that is included with your television and then tweak your menu settings. Press "Menu," and then "System" and then "Video." Select the "Video Input" option and then select the cable you have in your receiver. Press "Menu" again to exit out of those settings. Turn on your receiver to monitor your home with home security surveillance.
