How to Use Hard Carnauba Wax on Bare Wood
Applying a carnauba wax wood treatment is one the best ways to protect the integrity of real wood products. Knowing how to use hard carnauba wax on bare wood can be difficult, due to the rough texture of the polish. Carnauba wax is an expensive option to care for wood finishes.
To use hard carnauba wax on bare wood, you will need:
- Mild detergent
- Paint thinner
- 3 clean cloths
- Hard carnauba wax
- Bees or paraffin wax
- Paring knife
- Double broiler
- Turpentine
- Water
- Cheesecloth
- Soft buffing towel
1. Prepare wood area. Clean the wood with a dirt-free cloth and mild detergent, if it needs cleaning. Use paint thinner to remove any waxes or oils that are on the wood.
2. Shave off wax. Utilize a paring knife to cut then strips of the Carnauba & other wax. Make strips small for quicker melting.
3. Melt the strips. Fill the bottom pan of the double broiler with water and place on a medium heat setting. Position the smaller pot on top of the other pot and deposit the wax. Remove wax from heat after it becomes a liquid. Stir in the turpentine a little bit at a time.
4. Apply to wood. Take out some of the wax and put it in a cheese cloth. Apply strong strokes to rub the wax on the bare wood and let it dry.
5. Polish the wood. Use a soft towel to buff the waxed area making long strokes until it has a clear shine. Work covering small areas at a time.
