How to Trim Pole Barns
A pole barn is an outbuilding for a modern farmstead. Several businesses that have large amounts of equipment, vehicles, or tools can benefit from a pole barn. A pole barn is easy to put up because they are built with an earthen floor.
Supplies:
- Chainsaw or electric saws--all with 9-inch wood cutting blade
- Electric power source, and extension cords
- A pole barn, partially assembled
- An 8-foot Type 1A rated trestle style stepladder
- Put individual poles in the ground or concrete foundations. Wrap the 2-by-4 purlins around the building to straighten the poles. Put in dual 2-by-12 boards so they can support the roof trusses at the top of the poles. Fasten the 2-by-12s to the foundation poles with carriage bolts, washers and nuts. Make sure they are level around the perimeter of the building.
- Take the chainsaw or electric saw and trim the foundation poles. Take a Type 1A free standing trestle ladder to reach the top of the walls.
- Trim the height of the foundation poles around the whole perimeter. Make sure the roof trusses rest on top of the double 2-by-12 beam and over the end of the buildings. Build a new gable for the end of the building that connects the roof trusses to the walls. At this point, the pole barns are trimmed. You made an excellent choice choosing a pole barn because they are great economical option to a regular building.
