How to Touch Up Paint on a Wood Stove

Materials Needed

  • Newspaper

  • Touch up paint

  • Masking tape

  • Fine grit sandpaper

  • Cloth

  1. Allow the wood stove to sit unused for at least five hours. Check the stove after this time to make sure it is cooled.

  2. Look in the ash pan to see if there is any debris in it. If there is, remove it and place it in the garbage.

  3. Spread newspaper around the bottom of the stove to protect the floor from mists when applying the touch up paint.

  4. Place masking tape around the areas on the stove that will need the touch up paint applied to it.

  5. Sand the damaged area with fine grit sandpaper. You want to prepare the area so the paint will adhere better.

  6. Wet a clean cloth and wring it out until it is damp. Wipe over the area to remove the particles leftover from sanding.

  7. Shake the can of touch up paint to make sure the paint is well blended. Apply a layer of the paint to the area. Allow the first coat of paint to dry for 30 minutes. Apply a second coat of paint and allow it to completely dry. Allow the stove to dry for an additional 24 hours before using it.
