How to Swim Laps in a Pool

Swimming laps is a great way to get in shape. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned swimmer, swimming laps can build endurance and tone muscle. As in any sport, there are some basic things to know before beginning. If you are new to swimming laps, here are some guidelines to get you started.

1. Find a lap lane to swim in that is empty or one that has just a few people in it who swim at your speed.

2. Gently slide into the water and let your body adjust to the water temperature before swimming.

3. When swimming, stay on the right hand side of the lane as if you were driving a car.

4. Turn at the end of the lane being careful not to hit your head on the wall.

5. If someone wants to pass you, briefly stop at the end of the lap and allow them to pass.
