How to Store Homemade Pizza Dough Overnight

Homemade pizza dough will rise better and offer a crispier texture if you store it overnight before you cook it. Storing the dough overnight also allows the dough to harden a little, making it easier to shape. Many recipes call for the dough storage. Even if the recipe doesn’t call for this it’s a good idea to go ahead and do it anyhow.

If you make your own homemade pizza dough, then it is a good idea for you to know how to properly store it overnight. This will allow you to use the dough as you need it as long as it is properly stored.

What You’ll Need:

  • Parchment Paper

  • Flour

  • Pizza Dough

  • Olive Oil

  • Pastry Brush

  • Tray or Bowl

  • Brush

  1. Get all of the dough separated into small serving size sections. Ball them up so they can each make one small single serve pizza. Consider the size when you are thinking about how many pizzas you eventually want to make. They can be bigger if you plan on making fewer pizzas.

  2. Find a flat surface with a lot of room to spread your flour on. Each ball needs to be thoroughly coated in flour.

  3. Lay out your parchment paper over the tray or bowl you will be using. Put each ball of dough on the parchment paper. Get out your olive oil and a brush to brush each ball with olive oil. Once each ball has been brushed, you can cover up the tray or the bowl with your plastic wrap.

  4. Give the balls of dough about 2 hours to set at room temperature when you are ready to use them. This will prevent any problems when you need to begin cooking as the dough will be too hard to shape when they are still cold from the refrigerator. They can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days if needed.
